I have bags all around my eyes and I am only 11, turning 12 in March. It's so embarassing. This boy even asked if I got enough sleep and one even was like: "Woah, you eyes are like, black!". What can I do to get rid of them?

Well, you should know that I don't wear makeup yet. I'm nervous of asking my mom about it, especially about the bags under my eyes. What can I do? I try to sleep at night but it is really hard. I can't fall asleep a lot. And when I do, the bags don't even show signs of going away. I don't know what to do. Help?

One time, I was watching this thing and a doctor said that sometimes, bags under someone's eyes, are inherited.

And it's not always about sleep. If I sleep well tonight, i'm sure it will do nothing.

Does the cucumber trick really work? Is that why people use it? Hmm..

I'm really light skinned, for someone who comes from Africa, anyways. I look like i'm white but I'm from Ghana, Africa so the bags show up even more since my skin is so light.

Under-eye circles (or bags) are often inherited. You can sleep 22 hours a day and it wouldn't do a thing! Have a look at your parents or your grandparents - have they got a similar feature?

I do think you should work on trying to get 8 hours of sleep a night though - this is good for your health, even if it doesn't do much for the bags under your eyes!

Drink lots of water and stay away from Coke, Pepsi or Coffee. This will help your skin look nice.

Maybe when you are a bit older (and you have your mum's permission), you can try getting some concealer (makeup) for your undereyes. Go somewhere where you can test it first. You should look for a liquid concealer that exactly matches the skin next to your eye (test it on your cheek). Have a look in a mirror in the daylight - if you can't see the concealer, it's a good match!

I also had another thought - since you are only 11, your body is still growing. Sometimes what happens is people "grow into their faces" - the shape of your face can change. So when you are older, you might find that the eye bags are less obvious.

Good luck! (And don't listen to those pesky boys)

healthy diet, exercise, drink more water, sleep well. Should be okay. Do you wear glasses by any chance? No sarcasm! No joke. I've noticed my sister who's worn glasses ever since she was little having dark circles under her eyes and my mum who also wears them having them too so it could be related. No joke. It's not funny. I'm just wondering if wearing glasses and having dark circles under eyes are related in some way. Is it coz the sunlight doesnt get under there and then your skin tone and the bit avoiding the sun under eyes start to differ. I've thought of it for some time now.

First aid trick in the morning: put two large spoons into the ice section of your fridge for about three minutes. Take them out and gently press them onto your eyes. :)
(Or prepare some black tea, leave the bags in the hot water for two minutes, take them out, leave to cool down, then gently press onto your eyes - does the same, but takes way longer because you need to wait for the tea and for the cooling process.)

Long term things to do:
- enough sleep, yes.
- drink a lot of water, yes.
- eat lots of fruits and vegetables (and generally healthy)

I think another problem you have is that you can´t fall asleep rsp. it takes a long time. There are several ways of dealing with that. :)
- do you exercise? That usually safes you from not feeling sleepy in the evening, just don´t exercise before going to bed.
- try getting into the habit. Try to go to bed at the almost exact same time every night (weekdays and the weekend, yes) and getting up at the almost exact time every morning. It might sound a bit harsh when thinking about saturdays and sundays, but getting a proper routine will help your body "getting used to" sleeping at a certain time. :)
- a lot of people can´t seem to fall asleep because there´s still too much going on in their heads. So, before you go to bed... have you ever thought about a diary? Not so much because it´s such a cute girlie thing to do, but just to write everything down that´s currently keeping you busy. You don´t even have to write full sentences, maybe you just put down all important things you need to or want to do tomorrow or this week? This way, you don´t have to be afraid of forgetting about anything, which might keep you awake unconsciously.
- I have to be harsh again: cut down your TV and internet consumption - I have to say I don´t know how much time a day you spend in front of monitors, but that does have a effect, it´s scientifically proven. :)
- get enough fresh air and if possible, exercise outside.
- a hot bath in the evening might calm you down here and there, but go to bed more or less immediately afterwards.
- drink enough during the day, but don´t drink immediately before going to bed for obvious reasons. ;)

Bags under your eyes are generally a sign for the water in your body not circulating properly, that´s all. You might have inherited the dark shadows, do you maybe have any Latino genes in you? ;) Especially women with a darker skin tone tend to have more problems with dark bags showing. Try the things listed above, and the first aid thing I told you first should help you out in the meantime. And if you still don´t feel good about it: concealer doesn´t really count as proper makeup, so you shouldn´t worry.

That was a long answer, but hey. ;)

Its genetic. The skin under your eyes is very thin and so the deoxygenated blood coming back to your heart under them looks purple. It will appear darker if you have light skin like you do. Yes lack of sleep exacerbates it, but if you are getting enough sleep you can only cover them up.

There are some new lotions that claim to help reduce their appearance but are very expensive. I think you should tell your mum, tell her it makes you self concious and can she come shopping for concealer with you? Only costs like $10 US. Also if you get a tan they will appear to blend in more.

Drink tons of water. Drink it at school, home, in the car.
If you cant get to sleep close your eyes and if that doesn't work buy a hotlava lamp that has gliter and stare at it till you fall asleep.
Most times when people can't get to sleep it means they didn't do enough things in the day to make themselves tired.
Also, put lotion softly under your eyes.

for an immediate fix place sliced cucumbers over your eyes since they are 90% water they work like little ice packs when you place them on your eyes when they are cool. for a long term fix I would go see a doctor about your sleeping problems and bags.. just to make sure everything is alright.......you're too young to be having sleeping problems

Stay away from coffee of caffeine drinks so you can sleep better. It is all a part of changing. My daughter is 12 and just got her period recently for the first time. She goes through mood swings and puffy eyes and the whole bit. Just wait a few years, it gets better. Try some concealer for under your eyes. Use moisturizer first.

You really need to work on getting more, and better quality sleep. The bags will go away when you are sleeping right.
