I have a parakeet. His name is a Petey. He is great. I live alone and he keeps me company. He doesn't say any words even though I have tried, but he does make kissing sounds that sound exactly like me. I love my little Petey more than anything.

I have a cockatiel. They are awesome pets! How much time you want to spend with your bird and how much noise and mess you can handle would all be factors on what bird would be best for you. If you want a bird who stays in its cage does not make a huge mess and is great to look at maybe finch's are for you. If you want something that you can take out and play with but arent afraid of a little mess then maybe a parakeet or cockatiel. If you have lots of time to spend with the bird then maybe one of the larger birds like an African Grey or conures would be great! All depends on what you are wanting in a pet bird! But I will say that birds make great pets and I would never not have one! Do some more research and figure out which is best for you! Good Luck!

I have a sun conure named Aeris. He is very lovable and affectionate. Loves to be around people and is very smart. He has such a funny personality and most conures do. He does scream a lot so if you can't deal with loud noises he may not be the best bird for you . But if noise doesn't bother you conures are great companions with humans. My sun conure also has some amazing colors very pretty bird. He gets a lot of compliments on how pretty he is. They also live for 25-30 years they are decently priced for a larger bird. I paid 300 for mine, but with the cage and all the supplies I needed for him it came up to about 500 dollars. I have to say he is worth every dime.

I've got an Amazon parrot that I've had for 22 years now........but i you are a "beginner" with birds, I would really suggest you start out with a budgie (parakeet) or a cockatiel. I got my first budgie when I was 6. My 2 cockatiels lived for 25 years........... longer than their "expectancy".
The "best bird" depends on what you are looking for. Do you want something you can take out in public on your shoulder, like "Baretta's Bird"? Expect to spend HOURS AND HOURS training your bird.
Want one that will talk? The BEST is an African Grey but they are expensive. Cockatoos need someone who is home most of the time, if they are alone they tend to pluck their feathers. Amazons will usually bond to one person and shun all others. The smaller birds, like cockatiels, parakeets, and the like, are fairly good talkers if you get them YOUNG and can be great companion birds.
The ONE MOST IMPORTANT thing I can recommend to you is to get them on a good diet. My Amazon had a SEVERE calcium deficiency and Vitamin A deficiency from eating regular seeds. Get your bird on the Harrison's bird food (pelleted food) from the beginning and find a good bird vet in your area. (They are hard to find..........you want one that sees birds ONLY if you can find one, my vet is called "For the Birds" and they don't see dogs or cats)
Good birds just to look at but not take out of the cage and "play with" are canaries, finches, and/or parakeets, doves, etc........
it all really depends what you are looking for.
There is a good magazine out there called "Bird Talk". You might want to pick up a copy at your local pet store and check it out, it will give you some ideas as to what bird is right for you.
Good luck, owning a bird is a wonderful experience.

I have 5 budgies, 1 cockateil, I was hand rearing a baby cockateil and I am expecting to get a baby Bourke Parrot as soon as they are old enough.

The budgies are wonderful. They would have to be my favourite bird of all time :) They all live in one big cage and come out to fly everyday! They play and fly and just do so much! They're amazing to watch, although if you get just one I truly believe you are missing out! They are not tame but are used to humans being around because the 'bird room' is really my computer room.

The cockateil we only get a little while ago and he is still settling in. He was hand reared but was the most stand offish of the bunch. Hopefully he will warm to us given time. We are working with him every day. They are wonderful birds, and love being around humans. The baby cockateil I was hand rearing (had an accident in the next) was the most beautiful bird I have ever seen. She was so loving and just wanted to be around people.

Bourke parrots are quiet birds who are not very active for most of the day. They do become more active at dawn and dusk. they are small, only a little bigger then a budgie and are really beautiful little birds.

No matter what bird you choose a lot depends on the individual bird's personality as well as on the type of bird.

All bird require a great level of care (daily cage cleaning, time out of cage, daily training and interacting, variety of fruits/veggies etc every day and more!) but they are great pets and I love every one of mine!

I have an African Grey and a Moustache Parakeet. I recommend the African Grey...they are great talkers and very entertaining. My AG is Bubba...he barks, meows, calls the dog and the cat, sings "Shake your Booty" and could probably answer the phone. Guests are amazed by him. My MP is a screamer...my husband threatens to open the door and let him out!

I have a military macaw, his name is Rio (if you look at my myspace, he's the green one) and then I have a baby Greenwing Macaw and her name is Katie. She's the mostly red one.

They're awesome, but not for the faint of heart when it comes to noise or their ginormous beaks. LOL Otherwise, they are entirely too much fun. They go pretty much everywhere with us, they eat with us, they watch tv with us, and they cuddle with us.

Rio knows some cool tricks, and Katie's still learning. Rio says over 200 phrases, and Katie says about 6, but she's only 19 weeks old...

What else do you want to know? LOL

Here's myspace addy. If you watch the slideshow, you'll see a bunch of different pictures of them both. http://www.myspace.com/undecidedordecided

I've had Parakeets, Cockatiels, Quakers and I currently have a Sun Conure. I've also had some experience with Rainbow Lorikeets. They are all pretty fantastic. =]

I Have a sun conure (Vincent) and a cockatiel (Sophie). Vincent is a screamer. He is very affectionate, but VERY loud. Sophie is really sweet, but she wants to be on your should ALL the time. I love them both to death and I really want more birds. They have so much personality.
