I have a beagle and we have to keep it outside because of 2 little babies in our house and the dog is just to wild for them. Should we get a room were she can stay without bothering the babies?Or let her stay outside.By the way, weve got a lot of snow here in Denver this winter.

Obviously you know the answer. No dog should be an outside dog. Its called training. Laziness results in just sticking a dog outside. Have you heard of crate training? Yes bring them into the house. Beagles were bred as pack animals and it is cruel to force them to a life away from their masters.

Beagles out of most breeds are super social and require attention. I've seen where poeple confine beagles in a room and it makes them even more crazy and wild.

You have a dog that is not a good fit for your family. A dog is supposed to be part of your family regardless. If you are going to have an outside dog you should just not have a dog. To ask this question implies that this is so.

You are not going to be able to change the dog. Well you could but it would take a huge amount of effort. Best thing to do is to get on the net and contact a beagle rescue organization. They will place the dog in a home with people that know how to deal with them.

First off - take the heater and the carpet/blanket out of the dog house. Unless the heater is approved for the application your using it for it can actually be more dangerous than beneficial. And melting snow and the condensation from the dogs breath will freeze into the carpet and make it useless as insulation. You may also want to ventilate the dog house to prevent frost buildup on the walls and ceiling. The best insulation is hay or straw, as it allows air to circulate to dry it out. And when the dog lays on it a natural dead air space is created under the dog that acts as an excellent insulator. Change out the material every week or so and that will be all the dog needs. The dog will be comfortable in there at temperatures well below ZERO. However, the dog would be better served if it could be inside during cold snaps of ZERO and below. OH - did Dad insulate the floor too? The floor should be insulated.

No, the coat is not heavy enough for cold weather when they are not running and being active. Keep the dog inside. This breed is meant for life in England, and even at that, hunters usually have good shelter and a large pack to keep the dogs warm, short of this just won't do in the winter.

If you exercise your dog and don't let it be dominate with you you'll have no problem with the dog and the babies. Try crating the dog if you're nervous. If you don't have time to give the dog lots of exercise, try a dog walker and a weighted back pack. I put a pack on my dog and he loves it, he's calm all day pretty much. If not, he's tearing my house apart.

Good Luck, and keep the dog in at night.

Beagles have a short coat, so that'd make ya think they don't do well in the cold. Contradiction to that is they're huntin dogs, used yearround as far as I know. Either way, it's simply not nice to leave a dog outside in the cold winter nights. Our older dog has a medium length coat, and though we're in florida where it doesn't get all that cold, he comes inside if the weather says it'll be close to freezing. Heck, if we think it's too cold to be outside in a thin jacket and jeenes he comes in. Our puppy hardly ever gets outside, but she's still a baby.

Do yourself, your kids, and your dog a fovor and get it enrolled in some obedience classes to teach it how to behave inside. Until then, keep it in a second room only if you really think it'll hurt the babies. There's no harm in it licking the babies, as long as it's not jumping up or biting them.

Give her room to play and play with her. I never understood the reason behind having a dog just to put it outside. Beagles are highly active little dogs, a burst of energy. They do need time outside to run and play but I deffinitly wouldn't put them outside the whole time. They are much safer in the house. My grandparents made me keep my bassethounds outside and a neighbor turned them loose in the middle of the night and so I no longer had them.

I would find her a room. My beagle seemed to do fine outside with cold weather, but I made sure she had blankets and stuff. But I live in South Mississippi, so it doesn't snow a lot. Good luck!

No I wouldn't leave one Beagle outside, Beagles are however a pack animal and can withstand harsher conditions if there are several of them. Probablly would be best off crating the dog when it needs to be indoors.

INSIDE,,, you should immediately invest in a crate and read up on how to use it.. you should also attend obedience classes.. this will help you to train your dog to be a loving member of the household,,, dogs are pack animals and would prefer to be part of the family,,, not outside looking in at the family that he would protect ( thru a window)) beagles DO NOT HAVE coats like huskies, malamutes, etc,. that were bred to be in the snow... bring that dog inside before someone calls the aspca on you. with crate training your dog can have his own place where he can be with you, be warm and safe from the babies.... please also read up on proper dog care do the right thing!!

Inside, Beagles aren't meant for outside with their short hair.
