Some folks believe that early baptisms were near death experiences not the symbolic dunking or spritzing of today. Would near death drownings awaken more people to Christ??? Is this the answer to saving our wayward world?

Baptism is strickly symbolic of washing away your sins. I think the thought of a near death experience would both scare away potential followers and kill some. You can in in know way know to what point a person has to be taken to be near death. The thought of it is rediculous.

I don't go along with you. The first believers were baptized in the River Jordan, which was a mud hole. There was nothing dangerous about it. You're missing the whole meaning of baptizm.

You get baptised as a public testimony to the world that you have accepted Christ as your Savior. You go under the water (dying to self -- sin) and you come up (born again in Christ).

I was baptized in a swimming pool. I know a few who were baptized in the Pacific Ocean. Although the meaning is the same, I do admit that it would have been cool to be baptized in the ocean.

Yes, those wishy-washy is-there-isn't-there agnostics will be lining up to have their faith settled by being nearly drowned. That's the answer, for sure.
