Over 8.2 million in NYC, so I would guess a lot. As far as murders that number hit an all-time high in 1988 with more than 3,600 murders. That's was during the crack drug epidemic.Last year, only about 600 murders. Yes NYC is a safe place to live thanks to former Mayor Rudy.

Actually, NYC is VERY safe. I'm there 3 times a year and no problems and I am very much alive.
