No. It is not over the top, no matter what the health nannies tell you. I would say that you are close to the limit, however, so do not exceed this quantity by much..

A pleasant way of sloughing off the cares of the day is to drink half of your bottle of red, then a miniature of napoleon brandy, and then finish the wine and go to bed.

We live in a nanny state in which we can breathe car exhaust fumes freely, but cannot smoke a pipe or a cigar. We can be stressed to the point of suicide by employers, but we are not allowed alcohol to the extent that it makes us feel good.

Stuff the Calvinists, drink a little and smoke a little. Eat well, and to damnation with the health freaks.

Yes, this is quite a way over what you should be drinking.

It depends on what strength wine, but say if it's 12%, then that's roughly 9 units a night so that's a whopping 63 units a week.

Recommended intake for a man is no more than 21 units a weeek, with a couple of no drinking days each week!

recommended daily allowance for a man is 2-3 units (roughly half a bottle) as long as you dont save all units up for one night, binge drinking, as this actually does more damage, of course there are added benefits from drinking red, as proved, not only that it tastes good. If you are drinking solely as a form of relaxation then i would say yes, you need to find another way to chill, unfortunately i like the taste and would not be so strong!

hmmm, tricky. if you're asking then it's most liekyl you're concerned which means yes it's a problem. the general rule of thumb where I work (for people with mental health and drugs and alcohol problems) is that if you can't go for a day without thinking about wanting alcohol then you're probably dependent. but there are varying degrees e.g., psychologically versus physically dependent and then each of those is on a spectrum. I'd say if you drink alone and are feeling depressed then you need to sort it out, but if you're doing it socially with others and you're still functioning well (work, mentally, socially, physically, emotionally) then bottoms up! just keep an eye on it and be open to what others are saying if they approach you and are concerned about you. and remember binge drinking is far more damaging than regular controlled drinking. alcohol is also (arguably) more damaging than a lot of illegal drugs so be aware of your limits. there are some great drugs and alcohol workers out there that can help you reach goals that you set yourself. try turning point - they're great, their web site is really informative and not judgemental

I think they only recommend 1-2 glasses a night and to have at least 2 alcohol free nights a week.

Depends. Is this a one-off or a regular thing? If it's regular then yes, you have an alcohol problem. If not, then no it's not. We all drink a little more than we should every now and again. As long as you're not rude or abusive then who cares?

Nah,as long as you not craving it in the day,why deprive yourself of something you enjoy doing? Presuming you enjoy it.Stress is a bigger killer than 'a bottle of red wine a day'
