I think it's fine for Christians to listen to music that's not classified as "Christian Music"- to a point. When you get into all the rap where they talk about having sex w/ everybody, everyother word is the f- word, or something like Marilyn Manson, then there's bound to be a problem. While I think that listening to Christian music would make it easier for someone (especially the younger people) to have a better relationship with Jesus Christ and keep it that way, I also think that in this day and age it's a little unrealistic to expect a teenager or anyone else for that matter to not like or listen to some of the more popular music. For instance, I consider myself a Christian, but Fall Out Boy and 30 Seconds to Mars are my favorite bands. I have tried to listen to the Christian Rock and for me, personally, it's just not the same.

Wow, what narrow minded people in that church are.
Bridge Over Troubled Waters, is not Christian, but has the overtone of Christian.
There's a Hole In the World... is NOT Christian, but has the overtone of Christian.
Your leaders of this organization do not know what they are saying. How dumb of them to say that.
The only music I would tell teens to burn are the ones that truly are of the evil side. They know which ones they are.
Most of the non Christian music is save to listen to.
Don't burn them!!!
By the way, I'm a true believer and I listen to a variety of music both Christian and non Christian.

Depends on the music. Listening to secular music is not going to automatically cause you to sin. And Christian music is not going to automatically cause you to praise God.
You have to be honest with yourself. When you're listening to a secular song, ask yourself what it's doing to you? Is it casing you to feel moody or hateful or distract you from God?
There is a lot of good music out there. You know? Use discernment. Pray about it too. If God convicts you that a certain song may be bad for you to hear where you are in that moment, then don't listen to it. Cuz it depends on what you're dealing with in the present and what you have dealt with in the past. You know?

Yes I do, as long as the music has a positive message or promotes some sort of positive feeling inside. Enya's always pleasant, and I like Corbin "Bleu"'s "Push it to the Limit"; y'know, music that doesn't make noise, swear, promote evil, and so forth. I know I wouldn't put Enya and Mannheim Steamroller in the same category with (say) Metallica or something.
But that's just my opinion. I have a few Baptist friends that would agree with your youth group's decision, it seems.

Christians can listen to what ever music they want to listen too. They are only religious on Sundays (which isn't the sabbath set by The Most High). The rest of the week they morph into some kind of surreal beast.

I think it is something you have to be careful about. The most important thing is the message fo the music- what is the song saying? If the song's message encourages sinfukl behavior, or exalts something that is not Godly, then it is a problem. I have heard a lot of secular music, however, that is just fine, singing about everyday life or correcting bad decisions or whatever- your music does not have to be religious, just be discerning about the message!

It is ok for Christians to listen to music other than religious. You really should pay attention to the lyrics and think about whether it's appropriate or not. There is some music, especially some rap, that is just filthy, degrading and wrong.
May God Bless you.

Depends on if it causes them to sin, or tempts them to sin. If listening to hip hop makes them want to party, and they go out and blast it and do un-Christian-like things, then I'd say they should probably not listen to that music. For me personally, I only listen to Christian and country. Anything else brings me back to my days before I became a Christian, and I get sinful thoughts, and that can be dangerous. It all depends on the person. I.E If someone is a recovering alcoholic, it would not be wise for them to go hang out at a bar, where there is a temptation to drink. But for other people, it's perfectly fine for them to go to a bar and just hang out, and there is no temptation to drink.

I was at JesusFest in 1970 and heard Larry Norman and Kieth Green sing a Beach Boys tune together. We had a blast!
Music that is not religious is fine, you just have to be selective.

They can listen to whatever they want.
I chose to listen to mostly christian music,
because when I turn on the radio, and All the music is about sex, sl*ts and big ol booties, It a little sickening.
But I don't think one can blame music, movies or anything else on their hearts' desires. It just eliminates it as an excuse.
