first of all i say do what is in your heart. I am a single mother who is in the army. i am leaving for iraq in two weeks. I had to have a family care plan so that i could stay in the military. My children are happy and know that i love them and that they are the most important thing to me. if you can not get a family care plan in order then you will be chaptered out. this is an honorable discharge with full benefits. What ever you do just remember where one door closes another one opens. Lastly to those ignorant people who thing mothers with children should not serve in the military. Isn't the United states supposed to have equal rights for men and women. If that is the case then men with children would have to get out to. We would have very few people in the military.

Men with children serve in the army, so women should be the same.
It would be best if only one parent is placed in harm's way, however.
Of course, this is something to be considered before signing up.
If you have a chance to get out, you should consider it. We may need you more in a few years when your children are grown up, anyway. Good luck.
Thank you for your service.

Its your decision to make. Men stay in the army while being parents, why shouldn't women have the same rights? In all fairness, military service isn't all that hazardous. Working as a police officer in Washington DC would be more dangerous.

Ask yourself this, are the children going to be better off if you leave the military? Consider living conditions, healthcare and all the other issues.

When I was in ( 1967-1969 ) a woman became pregnat and was immediately discharged. They also didn't go into combat either. Since women have fought to serve in combat, then I guess they should stay in, even with children.
I personnaly agree that a woman with kids, should NOT be on active duty....I also believe, woman do NOT belong in combat.

You'll have to serve state side and get a second job to pay for daycare.

If you are in a combat situation like Iraq or Afghanistan, keep the kids in the USA till you get home. Who wants kids running around the Green Zone with suicide bombers killing everyone they can right outside of it? Not me.

i have a friend who is currently deployed to iraq and she left to beautiful boys behind you cant take kids to iraq with you they have to be left with their father or a reliable family member. if your in and deploying. you knew this could happen when you signed the dotted line. since you active duty get your kids with a family member and do your job. your children come second to your commitment to the military. i am sorry you joined do your time your children will be safe here in the states go do your duty
