I kind of understand why it has been deemed nessesary in the past and could again but it seems ironic that the purpose is to fight to preserve our freedoms while conscription takes that very same freedom away.

This will sound weird but lets assume that the whole planet was threatened by aliens and not enough humans were willing to join the resistance. If we did not conscript all of us would lose instead of securing the future for the rest of humanity.

(That was a little out there but I guess it's a point.)

If a nation can't get the volunteers then there's something wrong- and the young people are voting with their feet..
