How can you say abortion is only ok in the situation of rape?

I would think to you who believe abortion is bad that an abortion is an abortion. Because your argument is that you are taking a life of an innocent. Well either way it is innocent weather it's by rape, incest, or consentual sex. I just don't understand the logic of you people. For the love of god read what i just said and think about it. It makes absolutly no sense at all. And now for the statement that is sure to get me tons of thumb's down. When do you define life? Do you wash your hands? You are killing bacteria. OH, but that is ok because the bacteria doesn't have a soul right?? So tell me where it says in your holy book that every living thing doesn't have a soul. Please email me or msg me, I'm dying to see this. Either way you are focing your beliefs on someone else if you are saying that it has a soul which is why it is bad. Some religions say it's bad for a woman to show any inch of her body besides her eyes. How would you like it if that became the law?

It's not okay, of course. Every abortion kills an innocent human being. Killing innocent human beings, whether in the womb or in Iraq, is wrong. It's not complicated. You are of course entirely correct to point out the inconsistency of pro-lifers who justify abortion in some cases.

Abortion is NOT ok in the case of rape! Why should an innocent child be brutally murdered because his father was a violent criminal? And the last thing a woman in that situation needs is to compound the rape by another violation of her body. She has no need to feel shame or guilt about the rape. She was an innocent victim. How will she benefit from committing a murder where she is the guilty party and her little son or daughter is the innocent victim, and then having to live with that guilt the rest of her life?

when i was 7 my mother was in a terribly abusive relationship.. she was beaten and raped in front of my sister and i ..
she looked after this mans 2 children also , one was handicapped

after the rape she planned to escape but this man kept watch over her like a prisoner
she found out she was pregnant and knew she had to do something about this
so one night she ran away with all 4 children while the man lay drunk
she had to take the mans children to their grans and just run off anywhere with my sister and i
we had no clothes, money or personal belongings
she went to her sisters who was the only family she had , but her sister also had children and no room for us all
so my mother left us there until she went to a shelter and eventually found an appartment for us
during this time she arranged for an abortion , as this man was looking for her and she was scared he would find out about the baby
so she did it ... she nearly died doing it
and at 7 years old i was really the only person my mother had to help her through this
that was 30 years ago...
to this day she mourns that baby , she knows that her life got better in the end and that the baby MAY have been safe
but this is only in hindsight and may not have been so if she had went ahead with having the baby
i love my mother very much and know how difficult this decision was for her
so despite the fact that i could not have an abortion ....
i would not judge anyone who has to make this decision as i know how heartbreaking it can be
sometimes people have very little options and must do what is right all round ..... even if it hurts them deeply

The people who believe this are using a belief system that isn't confined to a simplistic right/wrong, black/white breakdown. It's kind of like saying that if it's okay to shoot someone who's running at you with a knife, it should be okay to shoot someone who's throwing a baseball at your face. It would be awful to have your foot cut off, but if your foot is already destroyed and will never heal, then you choose "the lesser of two evils."

In other words--yes, abortion is bad. Even pro-choice people like myself would love to live in a world where nobody needed or wanted an abortion. BUT in some situations, it's more "necessary" than others. People who believe it's okay in the case of rape are making that call. More power to them, not defaulting to false dichotomies.

I was wondering the same thing too. I asked a religious leader that I trust, and he said that it is only okay if the girl who was raped is young. Her body might be too small to give birth/hold a child, and she might die in that situation. That is the only time they are allowed. At least, that's what he told me.
