first of all, DON'T FREAK OUT. it might be hard, but try not to think about it. not to worry you, but there will be enough freaking out once you get the braces. For the first day, they just feel weird, but by the next morning they will hurt a lot. pain killer works a lot actually, and you can find that your family will be extra nice. Just relax, and try not to stress too much. It should be a little better by the camp, but you might want to bring some advil along. by then, there might be some canker sores which are annoying. also, DON'T accidentely bang silverware against your teeth. i started crying...

OK, I'm going to be brutally honest. Braces suck, and the first week is by far the worst. The day after you first get them on is usually when the pain sets in. Its different for different people, adn while its not a sharp, horrible pain, its a dull aching pain. You can actually feel your teeth moving. Don't plan on eating anything in a solid form for the first week. Yes, its that bad. I couldn't even chew bread. Anything that involves your teeth touching each other or something solid hurts. Concerning pain, they might not hurt when you go to camp. You still won't be able to eat normal - but it won't be as bad as the first week. It took me a good two weeks before I was back to eating normally.

Don't listen to what they say about popcorn - I worked at a movie theatre while wearing my braces, so I was constantly eating popcorn (I worked the consession stand) and never had a problem. Tootsie Rolls could cause a problem, but don't worry too much about that because you'll eventually get a feel of what you can and cannot eat (apples being something impossible to eat).

It takes about an hour and a half. It doesn't really hurt, I just didn't like the stuff they spray in your mouth. They put these things that keep your mouth open, so you may find those a little uncomfortable (I didn't - I feel asleep for 30 minutes). Nothing painful at all, just uncomfortable and wierd.

They do mess up the inside of your lips and give you kanker sores for the first month or so. That gets pretty annoying, but after awhile your gums get toughened and you stop getting them.

Just make sure you don't pop off a bracket, or else they have to drill off the remaining glue, which is what really got me. Basically they take a drill sander to your teeth, and it hurts like a b*tch. Don't pop any off and you'll be fine until it comes time to take them off.

Don't get too worked up over them, and maybe take some Tylenol PM or that night medicine to make you fall asleep if your that worried. Its not terrible, but its not great.

This is, at least, exactly what happened to me (its only been a year and a half, so I still remember it well; in fact, i'm still in mine for another half a year).

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me (cmatz0@yahoo.com). Relax, don't get nervous, and look foreward to camp.

Whenever i got my braces/expander I cried the first day I had them. It hurt so bad that I didn't even want to leave my house. The first few days after that my gums and teeth were tender, but then I didn't even realize I had them. Plus your teeth will look perfect after you get them off. The best advice I have for cleaning your braces is to get a water-pick. This got all of the food debris off my braces and massaged my gums in the process to soothe them. The process took about an hour. And they just use an adhesive to apply the braces to your teeth.

Never had braces, though all my friends do... They say it hurts like a mother, but you'll get used to them. Just wait it out.

it all depends but mostly they r taken off in like 6months or a year and they should not hurt you anymore by the time you go to camp
