People look for easy fixes to complicated problems and frequently cause even bigger problems.
The Catholic Church agrees with the U.S. Constitution as currently interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court and does not support "structured" prayer in public schools.
In the Vatican II document, Declaration on Religious Freedom, Dignitatis Humanae (Human Dignity), the Church states:
The human person has a right to religious freedom. This freedom means that all men are to be immune from coercion on the part of individuals or of social groups and of any human power, in such wise that no one is to be forced to act in a manner contrary to his own beliefs, whether privately or publicly, whether alone or in association with others, within due limits.
Children will continue to privately pray before tests just like they always have.
With love in Christ.

Because prayer in school is not wrong. We have a separation of church and state. Yet lately it seems that the government has taken an active stand against religion, which is wrong. I don't believe that teachers should lead prayers, that could influence the young. However I do believe that students should be encouraged to explore all forms of thought including religious thought. By the way, I myself am an atheist. I'm just not intimidated by religion

I don't.
We have absolutely no business mixing religion with public education. If you want that, pay to send your kid(s) to a parochial school, where they do even more than pray.
If you do a little research, it's easy to see that the religious right's various organizations and leaders have made NO SECRET about their political agendas in this country.
This is not conspiracy theory; it is documented fact.
They want to control what we see, hear, read, etc.
The school prayer thing is but a small part of their total agenda.
I don't think prayer in itself is anything "bad;" I just think that it has a time and a place like anything else, and it is not appropriate in public education.

Why do people not want prayer in school. Why not the ten commandments? Do you prefer all the violence that is there now? I don't People should be able to pray in school. Not force people to pray but be able to pray. I guess violence is better because all the children feel so lost and confused.

if its in a public school and they aren't making children pray then that's wrong, everyone has a right to religion. if its a private religious school that's fine. but if there enforcing prayer that's just wrong.

Because Christians seem to think that it is their right to preach their religion to all children in the public schools. They don't seem to care that not everyone shares their views.

We are allowed to pray in school just not if it disrupts the class and the faculty cannot make us pray. Blessed be.

People can pray in school all they want. As long as it doesn't disrupt class or other students, there's nothing stopping them.

Because we have that right. Plus it's not school prayer. It's prayer in school.
