How do I paint over Wine/Burgandy walls?

I am buying a house with very burgandy walls and we would like them to be Behrs Short grass prairie 760D-5 (if you want to look it up)which is a sage green type colour is there a best way to do this?

It's quite simple, really. You should have no trouble at all.First, you'll need to clean the walls well. I suggest using TSP but you should use the liquid kind (and not the powder that you'd have to mix) as the liquid is non-toxic and you won't have to rinse after. Let the wall dry completely, which shouldn't take long.

Do you know if the paint on the walls is latex or oil-based? If you aren't certain or you know for a fact that it's oil-based, you'll need to use an oil-based primer, one nice, even coat. If you want easy clean and wash up when painting your sage green, you can use latex paint on top of the oil-based primer without a problem but I do suggest 2 coats. Don't worry if it's winter: oil-based primers nowadays are quick drying (2 hours) and low odor. If you decide to skip the primer, you should know that it'll take you many more than 2 coats of paint to cover the burgundy... and since primer is less expensive than paint, it's a no-brainer.

I just painted my computer room. It was a dark brown and I painted it a grass green. What I did was bought primer and the paint. To make it easier I poured a little of the paint into the primer to tint it. This saved me a few coats. I just applied the primer let it dry and put two coats over and it worked wonderfully.

I did that a year and a half ago. Burgundy walls to a sage color. You have to get a very good primer. If you get the cheap stuff it will be too thin and not cover good enough. After about 2 coats you should be good to go.

You have to get primer first and paint at least 2 coats to cover the color that is already on there you will know how many coats to put on when you no longer see the original color then you can paint it the color you like!! Use a good white primer, then a couple coats of the sage paint.

Go to a local hardware store and buy Kilz and put a coat of it on the paint first. It essentially "kilz" that color, so you can go over it with any color you'd like.

Use one coat of grey primer, then one coat of white primer. Make sure they are good coats and that will give you a clean slate to work with. Good Luck =)

Primer it first with Kilz. Then paint your color over it. If it's really dark, you may need another coat of primer.

just make sure u use a good primer not the cheap stuff and maybe use 2 primer coats just to make sure and NEVER PUT SEMI-GLOSS ON THE CEILING it will lower the value of the house or condo.
