I'm what you would class as 'Scottish', having been born in Edinburgh to two Scottish parents. My best friend is 'English', having been born to two English parents. We have neverending verbal jousts - each one slagging off the other country, but it is all done in fun. Most unfortunately however, there are some people who are indoctrinated into the mindset that one is superior to the other. These people need to come into the twenty first century and realise that in actuality, there really are NO SUCH THINGS as England and Scotland! When it comes right down to the fundamentals, there is land mass and human beings. Anything after that is a label that people have agreed on to try and make life easier. At least this must have been the original intention! Over time people have identified with the labels so much that they can't see how totally superficial it all is. This applies to the whole world and almost every subject that humans have touched.

I like both the Scots and English. I am English and part Celtic but so what. I have had friends who were Scottish and they were great people, so i have no preference to England or Scotland. I have never been to Scotland ...yet but going soon, i hear it's a great place.

I have read some of the answers and agree with those who support Scotland and really don't agree with those who say that Scotland cant stand alone. I personally think that no country or government should be able to rule another country or government, why should they have the right to do so.

And I'm sure that Scotland can stand on it own two feet and fight for it self, even after all this time under the act of "union". and i read this somewhere that Hadrian's wall was built to protect the English from the Scots not the other way round.

The Scottish people are a proud people and when they gain independence they can ask for help if they need it which i doubt they will need.

And the fact that we have to use the past as weapon of hatred or mistrust so we can justify why we dont like whoever is just stupid.

Just wish N.Ireland will join with the rest of Ireland and then that leaves Wales.

Also the English gene is about 3% of the population of England the rest is a mixture of Anglo, Saxon, Viking, Celtic(yes it is), Roman and any other European country that successfully invaded Britain After the Romans first arrived and also the "English" language can trace it's roots to the German langauge.

There's nothing wrong about the relations between Scotland and England other than Daily Mail hype. There is this idea that the English have that Scots hate them but this isn't true. Yes, there are some narrow-minded morons who do hate the English but you have idiots in every country. The only thing Scots hate are biased English news reporters who seem to forget that they are airing news to the whole of the UK, not just England. Talk about English sporting wins in the news briefly but hype it up on in regional news reports.

Other than that, Scots like the English just as much as the English like the Scottish. In the current climate of fear, hate and war, you'll find that the Scottish and English will be the first to defend each other if the other was threatened. We may have a banter over sports but when it comes to the important things, we have the capacity to be one nation.

I didn't know that there was a problem between England and Scotland. I know and the rest of the world knows that there is a problem between north and southern Ireland. I did not like the comment the head minister of Scotland made when England was playing in the world cup because I am English and I would support Scotland if they were playing in the world cup because we are supposed to be united as one country.

Do I hate the fact that I moved to Scotland 2 months ago and met the nicest people on the planet? People who still talk to their neighbours, who will give up their seat for a woman and baby? no, I don't think so. I hate the way it is between the English and English though.

Scotland should be let free. We are not england we are scotland. so why cant the bloody anglo saxons just leave the celts alone. They just cent get it into their thick sculls that we will never give up the fight to have our country back, it has been that way for centuries. We should have our own monarchy and the freedom to run our country the way we want without the say so of the english. We will manage fine on our own. Why do they think that they are so special and that we will fall appart without them..... Look at what Tony Blai has done to Britain as a whole!!!! sent our boys to war to fight a battle that was nothing to do with us just to suck up George bush's ***...... Let Thousands of Asylum seekers in to take our hard earned Tax through benefits and take our houses, sell drugs to our kids and ripp us off at every given chance........Allow bombers and murderers and rapists to roam free etc etc etc etc etc do I need to say anymore???? If thats what they have to offer then answer me this.....who on god's earth would want to be part of that?

I prefer the English. When I first came to England, I had no ill feelings towards the scottish, but meeting a few and finding them very arrogant and rude, it changed my mind very quickly.
