BMW's not only cost a lot to purchase, they're also expensive to maintain. Unlike many American cars you can't find after market parts for them. In other words you're stuck with paying extremely high prices for parts purchased from BMW and shipped from Germany. Even trying to purchase something like a windshield wiper refill or a battery may not be possible, except from a BMW dealer, on some models. Buying a BMW with lots of mileage on it is not a good idea if you don't have scads of money to spend for repairs. Like any other brand, the older they get or the more mileage they accumulate the more prone they are to breaking down. I have owned BMW's and while they are nice cars they are one of the most expensive cars, in the world, to maintain.

If this is your first car, think of it like a pair of shoes. The more milage, the more "broken in" it is. If you buy a pair of new shoes, then they will last a while and you will know their history.
Buy a pair of used shoes, then you might want to see how good condition they are in. What did the previous owner do in them? Will they break after you buy them?
Same goes with a car. I would recommend having ANY car you are looking at inspected by a mechanic to make sure it is in ok condition. Spending $80 for an inspection is worth it if it saves you from buying a car that is about to break down permantly!

If you are buying a BMW for a first car, you better know a beemer friend who knows how to fix this carfor free for little problems or else you will be pouring money into an endless hole called car repairs..
Used car as first car is normal. For less headaches, buy a Japanese used car.

Your first car shouldn't be a BMW, unless you have ALOT of money for any repairs.
I would say you shouldn't spend more than $4,000 on your first car. Try to find something with maybe 75,000 miles or so on it.

You cant expect your first car to be a BMW, but if you do find a cheap on without many miles, More than likely you will be able to find it by going to autotrader.com/ or going to cars.com

well if the car has alot of miles on it. you could get a carfax report. to see the history of the car your getting. or you could take a chance and be stuck with a lemon.alot of miles sometime means the engine is shot,or something else is wrong with the car.stick with one with low miles.your better off in the long run.

If the service history is documented it is easier to diagnose problems. The more regular service to it the less problems you will have.
