I want to get light blue and dark purple streaks in my hair; my favorite colors. My hair right now is a medium shade of brown, and my skin tone is the classic brunette, I think.

But my dad thinks it'll look bad. And I can't seem to convice him that it's my hair, and if it looks bad I'll dye it back to normal. He says he's gone down this road with my mom, and she couldn't find a shade close to her hair color. I don't think that'd be a problem with me.

I don't want to just go out and dye it. For one thing, it would ruin my parents trust in me. I don't want to use deception either, telling them, "Oh, I'll just go a few shades lighter" and then BOOM! blue and purple.

And, really, my dad's the only one with a problem with it. I just don't get what the big deal is.

So, any ideas?

Additionally, I don't think I should have to wait three more years just to get an unnatural shade of hilights.

He let me try a teeny, tiny, purple streek a few months back. After about a week you couldn't even find it, and after a month it washed out, and it wasn't even the color I was looking for. Besides, he only let me do it because I could easily hide it behind my other hair.

Take some very good pictures of your current natural hair color so that if all else fails, a colorist will be able to get your hair back to the right color. (I wouldn't try to match it with box dye)

Try some semi-permanent dye. It might not show up real well on darker hair (don't bleach your hair the first time you try it), but you'll be able to see how it looks. (I was quite happy with Manic Panic). And it will wash out in about 12 weeks. (Less if you stand in the shower with a bottle of dishsoap and scrub)

Point out to your dad that it is your hair and that you have a limited amount of time to indulge in such silliness (really, you can't get away with purple hair after your early twenties).

You could buy some light blue and dark purple clip in hair extensions... there are plenty of site on the internet and you can probably even find them at the mall or a beauty supply place.

Once you dye it though - it might be difficult to get it back. Maybe he will let you get just a couple of streaks for now and if you like them in a month you can get more...

How old are you? If you're still living with your parents then you are stuck and have to listen to them. Have you tried finding clip on colored hair? Or even trying colored mascara? Both work great and are temporary. You could try those and show your dad what you're planning. I think that if you aren't going for fire engine red with purple streaks he will be okay with it. Maybe you or a friend could draw a picture of what you want.

Maybe your dad need to just "see" what you are planning before
he is okay with it.

Good luck!

I know it is hard, but mind your parents. They are just trying to make you look presentable, and besides I thought most schools had a policy about dieing hair anything but a natural color I know it is that way around here.

Wait until you get older, and then do what you want. Until then, respect your parent's rules.
