You need 1000-1500 a day to live off. Remember that's just to eat, breathe and sleep. It doesn't count daily acitives, exercising etc. By lowering it to a 1000 and nothing below, you'll lose weight pretty fast. Anything below can be dangerous to you health. It also depends on how much he weighs, if he cuts out too much he can cause more harm than good.

For females 1500-non active
2000-active

For males-2000 normal
2500-active males

The answers are correct that say eating such a small amount is an unhealthy way to lose weight. A better way to is to train your metabolism by eating smaller portions than you did before, but more frequently. By having such a low caloric intake as 1000 calories you are telling your body to store "energy" and it does that by slowing down your metabolism. Also a healthy diet is crucial. Try eating more whole grains and fibers to help curb your hunger and of course fruits and vegetables are key. Avoid processed foods at all costs, because they tend to be high in added sugars and sodium. Read your food labels! Try to avoid high fructose corn syrup like the plague. And if your serious about losing weight don't be lazy. Exercise! It's not easy to be in shape and to have a nice body or else everyone would be. But I'm guessing since you wanna do this in 2-3 weeks you are on a short deadline for some reason. So yes you can lose the weight by doing that for a short period, but it's so much better to do it the healthy way if you can.

You might want at least 1500 calories a day and do a little exercises, maybe 30 to 60 min walk.It depends on how much you weigh, but yes you will lose 10 to 15 lbs in 2-3 weeks if you only eat 1000 cal a day.If you weigh over 120 lbs you will.I lost 35 lbs in 4 weeks just cutting back on fat grams.I stayed under 30 fat grams a day and my calorie intake was around 1500 to 2000 cal. a day.I went from 200 lbs to 165 in 4 weeks .That's been 7months ago and I now weigh 175 and I'm eating 2200-2600 cal. a day.Still staying under 30 fat grams a day.Hope this helps.

You need at least 1200 calories just for your body to function during a day. That is: breathing, eating, and so on. Yes you will lose weight, however, if you're young, you need more calories than that and you should aim for losing 2-3 lbs. a week. If you cut down below that calorie limit, you body will shut down your metabolism like you're "starving". Then, you'll gain it all back plus more. So...moderate exercise (walking 30 min a day will do it) and moderate diet. Try looking up "SugarBusters", or even and "Exchange" diet. These are good healthy alternatives that you can use to keep from being hungry and you'll be eating good healthy food as you lose weight. Godloveya, honey!

NO. If your body doesn't get a safe minimum of calories per day, your body will go into starvation/survival mode. It will hold onto a higher than normal amount of those calories and save them. Believe it or not, you need to eat more of the right foods in order to take off the pounds, and more importantly, keep them off.
Look into Bill Phillips' Eating for Life. More education on the subject matter is really what you need.

sure you can lose weight but in order to stay healthy when you're on a diet you need to have a little more calories. 1200 for a woman and 1800 for a man. Increase your physical activity and the weight will drop nicely.

Are you a man or a woman? My husband ate 1000 calories a day for 2 months and lost 25 lbs. I've been doing it for 2 weeks and have only lost 2 lbs. A man can lose far more quickly than a woman.

Please listen to that Sassy Old Broad! You really, really, really need to not go below that 1200 calories a day. I did, I lost weight, but my metabolism is permanently stuck in starvation mode. Once I started eating normally again, all the weight came back and I gained more into the bargain. Please don't make the same stupid mistake I made. It isn't worth it, and you probably couldn't lose that amount in just two or three weeks, anyway.
