Not at all. Let him out every hour or so to go potty. Tell him no (only when you catch him DOING it) and send him outside if he DOES potty inside.

Just be consistent and it should be fine. Obedience training is a good idea if he hasn't already had it. It'll help teach him to behave and teach you how to train him to do so.

Good luck!

NO NO NO! I got a dog at age three and I hated going inside. But when we brought it back in was the winter and we trained to be an indoor dog. And it doesn't take long to do it. what we did was comely offer it to go inside and made sure it stayed in side for a while. And what ever it liked about outside, like maby sun toys or maby just because people trained it like that. We brought that stuff inside. That is a small summery on what to do to get it an inside dog, and if you want more try www.google.com. that where I go! You can always teach a old dog a new trick.

No, not at all. In fact, he will be easier to train than a puppy. Just supervise him constantly while inside at first, have him on a schedule (indoor/outdoor/feeding/activities times) as that will help him learn. Take him out any time you see him start to circle or sniff and tell him to "Take a Break" or whatever you want to say to indicate you want him to go potty. When he goes outdoors, praise him and give him a treat.
If he has an accident indoors, tell him "No potty inside" or something consistent and as you tell him this take him outside and when he goes, even if just a bit, tell him good dog, bring him back in.
For times when you are not at home or can't supervise him, you can have a Kennel Cab or crate which is big enough for him to stand and turn around in but not bigger. Put him in there at those times until he has the hang of going outside and not inside.
He should learn quick.
One thing to watch for is that male dogs, especially when not neutered, will sometimes hike a leg and mark territory. Watch for that!
GL with training your dog. He can definitely learn and it will be easier for him than for a new puppy because he can hold it longer and can understand quicker.

Absolutely not. I have an 11 year old dog who was outside for the first 5 years until we decided to bring her in. She never has used the bathroom inside. Probably because she is used to going on the grass and not on the carpet. We've never had a problem with her in the house and it's been 6 years now.

No, absolutely not. It will take some hard work and patience on your part, but it's more than possible.

I have fostered many adult dogs over the years that were 'outside only' dogs before they came to me. Most were not housebroken. Many of them had a history of abuse and/or neglect as well. Two of them are sleeping on my couch as I type. :-)

My experience is adult dogs are easier to housebreak than puppies.

Also, keep in mind that 'inside' dogs still need plenty of exercise - both mental and physical - in order to stay happy.

Good luck!

Its never too late. You will probably have an easier time house training him now. And when you bring an outside dog inside them really do seem to appreciate it! I am sure he will make out great....be consistant with his training and he will catch on quick.

What kind of dog is he and whats his name? (Just curious)

Good luck!

HELL NO!!! i might be a little more TLC but he will learn.........just give him an option at first..............outside a bit then inside a bit.....accidents will happen........................slow go...........trust me if you are good with the animal it will work. i had a 10 yr old outside dog that was trained in 5 days........only 3 accidents.............
does that help.??

No! As he has been living outdoors, he will have an affinity (substrate preference) to potty outdoors! He'll do fine, just be consistent with your training techniques!

Good luck! He'll love you for including him more in your life!
