If you're refering to childhood obesity, which is practically an epidemic in the states, the best thing to do is to make school meals more nutritious, feed children more nutritious foods at home, get them involved in physical activities outside of school, like a sport, and improve physical education classes in elementary and middle schools to get kids in the habit of exercising. The key problem is a lack of physical activity and poor knowledge of nutrition. If we can intoduce this knowledge early enough, it will stay with our children for the rest of their lives.

As for adults, we can do the same thing: eat healthy, cut portions and get in the habit of regular exercise. Some offices even have reduced membership prices for nearby gyms. This is a great idea, as are walking clubs. Again, healthy food in the cafeterias is helpful as well.

As a society, we are already taking the first steps toward being healthier as a whole. Some cities have banned trans fats, which are terrible for your body. Cracking down on fast food companies like McDonalds will be essential for this type of law to be effective.

Some companies could start introducing incentives to get healthy, such as a small bonus or a company trip for those who do so.

this question could be answered with a smart remark like everyone should just stop eating. But I truly think people are just uneducated about what is healthy and unhealthy food. I also think it has to do with just taking care of yourself. By helping people get more active and making better food choices is a start. Showing commercials on how to fight obesity would be great. But then again people have to really want to be healthy and get in shape.

Obesity starts at home for some.
the others it is hereditary.
But for both it can be stopped and held back.
eating fast foods is the main source.'
not exercising
and eating late at night
there are books about obesity
Dr.s have everything we need to know about it.
so when people reply with stop eating . that is not the whole answer or reason.
the economy has a lot to do with it also.
not enough money for good food. for some.
not having the knowledge or have any one to help with their
obesity.
If everyone who is facing and is facing obesity they should read and learn about it . the dangers. risks.
but most do not..

Basically, eating a healthy well balanced diet will do away with obesity. Eating protien, complex carbs, fruits and veggies and eliminating saturated fats, simple carbohydrates( such as refined sugars) and decreasing sodium, will absolutely decrease your weight. Just remember eat healthy ( average servings )and increasing activity will burn more calories. That's the safest way to beat obesity!

Admit first that it not just a problem with food. Admit that it is not a problem directly related to an individual and their eating routine.
Admit that society, marketing etc has a lot to do with it. Portion distortion. The plates and bowls and cups (especially) are way out of proportion to what a cup of something is. Plates are bigger, bowls are bigger, cutlery is bigger and the smallest cup of coffee is like two cups........The selling of bulk products. The cheap price of bulk. The fact that we have a specific history that has a lot to do with your eating habits. (birth order, dessert after dinner as a treat, television on etc). Super size.....lack of excersize but more so lack of knowledge as to what your body needs, how to get it etc. Excersize will have little effect unless other things are in order as well.....like diet, water intake, feelings about self......by the way thin people or thinner then thin people are probably just as much a problem as obesity which in turn proves that it is not a problem with obesity or anorexia to give an example. I t is a problem with much more then that. Acceptance in who we are where we are and what we look and feel like at the present time........Getting rid of the models that are 215 but doing commercials for woman's cremes and hair products, make up, face scrubs, woman's wear. Offer programs for free that help people work on their emotional and spiritual mental etc health......Accept that people who do not know something and are not afraid to ask about it are far more healthy them those who do not. They realize that everyone does not know everything and do not feel bad because of their lack of knowledge in a certain area......medication for mental health mostly and other medications have something to do with it.........the high cost of eating 6-8 servings of fruits and veggies a day. I don't know about you but I cannot afford top eat well and proper every day due to the lack of money I have so aI tend to buy cheaper things even thought they are more unhealthy for me.........Gee. I could go on forever...If you have an weight issue or problem or are just concerned about someone else or society as a whole I do not believe you WILL find out the answer to your question hear. Research causes of obesity/ anorexia/bulimia/binge eating.......how society encourages unhealthy eating etc....If you want a straight and simple answer then you obviously are uninformed........It is NOT just an eating issue but our views on health in general etc.......hope I helped a bit.....have a great day, whether you are over weight, under weight, or in between....have a great day and accept who you are right now despite your issues.......everyone has something..........

Lets start in the home! How about mass education of the providers that give their kids junk food every day. Then, let's move to the public schools. No soda machines; no junk; no fast foods! We are poisoning our young people everyday with this crap. How about a nice chicken salad on wholewheat??? How about an apple? Parents should be upset on how kids are fed in schools, but they are so stupid about nutrition, that we're bound and determined to have a whole society of fat people; diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. It's just ridiculous to ignore this plague! Todays kids don't have a healthy chance! Next....how about some P.E. classes or gym? How about some sports? Get your kids outside for God's sake! This was a fabulous question to make others think about what is happening to the youth of America! Thanks! Godloveya!

we can't, we to have start self control, instead of stopping fat. My 10 year old brother and younger sister have this problem, my parents got tired after me I guess. And they just started buying debbie cakes, and letting the kids stuff their face. Self respect and control is taught from early age, it isnt learned on it own.
