As a lorry driver i listen to music all day.
Am upgrading my old player(jvc+speakers).
I would be intrested in what other people thinks the best unit is.
dont want to go daft with money(under £200)

Am told sony has a sharp (no pun lol) sound.

PIONEER PREMIER MODELS
KENWOOD EXCELON
HIGHER MODEL ALPINES(LOWER MODELS DONT OFFER VERY MUCH)
ECLIPSE

I PERSONALLY OWN THE PIONEER PREMIER 680 AND I LIKE IT VERY MUCH. HAS LOTS OF GOOD FEATURES AND ITS RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE @ ABOUT $230 NEW.

I also am an Alpine fan, but as long as you're going to spend some good money on it, you will get what you pay for. Just stay away from stuff like Sparkomatic, (Sharp), Realistic, Emerson and any other thing you can buy new a flea market, because there's a reason why they are there!

As far as speakers go, the new cones made of polymers seem to last longer than the old paper ones. Just go again with a solid brand and let your ears decide. Don't ask a round 2-way speaker to do the job of a 6 x 9 three way speaker, though. Going with three-way speakers will make you one happy lorry driver. No worries and Rock On.

For under $200 I would also go w/ Alpine. Its Ipod hookup is !st rate and only costs an extra $30 for the cord. Ive seen other manufacturers charge $100-$150 for such add-ons. SQ is great. Think about the # of RCA outs you need and pick the appropriate one. 9852 or 9856 should fit the bill.

If I had a little more I might get the Eclipse but its a little uglier and not worth the price diff.

Turn of the engine for about a day or two to ensure the circuitry doesnt have a reaction valve malfunction. Go to your local store and purchase a bottle of listerine. gently apply listerine onto both sides of a cd with a soft cotton cloth and place it in the Cd/mp3 player. Then purchase a zippo lighter and set the damn thing on fire..... now, isnt that much more fun than listening to the mp3/Cd player ? P.s, keep a fire extinguisher handy.

It's all in the sound your trying to achieve. Some radios have a digital 7 band eq, which allows u to curve the sound more. I say check out www.crutchfield.com, or www.sounddomain.com, and read the reviews. I personally love Clarion proaudio, alpine & eclipse 2nd, kenwood & panasonic 3rd, i try to stay away from pioneer decks, they are to complicated to control. I say no to sony.

Alpine make the best head units around, you should get a ipod compatiable version so you can get a 40gb Ipod and you dont have to worry about changing cds every hour.

Save all the hassle with cd's flying around your cab.. and not finding that meat loaf album ..lol

i personally dont think you can go far wrong with anything kenwood. really good quality sound and all of there head units have really good spec for the money in comparison to other brands. sony are also very good but are just too fidly, kenwood head units are alot easier to use especially when you are driving along because they have fewer and bigger buttons on the face panel
