Keep your shoes off of the floor. Closets are good places for them.

Keep the dog in another room when you're eating dinner. He must have been fed from the table before and now thinks it's his dinner too!

Take him to obedience school. In a good class, the dog will learn manners and more importantly, YOU will learn great ways to train your dog. Once you have the basics, you can pretty much teach them whatever you want.

In the meantime... try giving him a tasty bone before you sit down to eat. I mean like a smoked bone (available at pet stores) or raw bone (available at some pet stores or the supermarket's butcher area). That should keep him occupied and not so interested in your plate. As far as the shoes go... find out what kind of chew toys he likes. When he takes a shoe, get it back and say "NO!" then give him his toy and praise him when he chews it. Dollar stores are great places to get dog toys. Walmart also has lots of cheap ones. Good luck.

Put your dog in another room or crate, while your eating, if he goes there automatically you should reward his behavior. We train ours to "go to her room" when we sit down to eat. As far as your shoes go....well we use the command "give" and tell her its not hers, if she runs with it as a last result we spray her with vinegar and water, she drops it every time. After a few times he will get the hang of it, if he give it up give him a reward. A reward can be either a treat or just lots of verbal/petting praise. Obedience training is a good place to learn how to address these behaviors.

your dog likes your shoes because they smell like you or close friends and family so it's likeley he will keep taking them if you don't keep them away from him. put them in a closet or off the ground or something. as for the food thing, take him to training classes. the sooner the better. or tell him no every time he whines and begs but it will take a lot longer and be annoying. best of luckto you!

You should have crate trained the dog when you got him/her. You need to train the dog to stay on a "spot" and not to leave until released (stay command). Also, teach the dog not to eat until allowed to do so.

Go to a trainer and get professional help.

make him sit next to you the entire time you eat. when he tries to get up and move, don't let him. after you're done eating, give him a dog treat, if he's been good. never reward with people food.

remember, you're the master and it will take time to do this...once you falter (ie/let him take some food) then you'll have to start all over again.
