Hi I have an american daughter im Italian and we live in Spain but we want to go to visit her family, can the states in any way prohibit our entrance, thinking i might want to stay and marry her father or such..

No, you need a visitors visa, and a government I.D.

Here are three suggestions for you to get in legally:
1) For visiting, a tourist visa will do. You can apply for one at the US embassy in Italy.
2) If you are serious about marrying her father, he can apply for a K-1 visa for you - it's a fiancee visa, meaning you will be allowed into the US to marry him. After your marriage, you can apply for a green card (assuming he is an American citizen).
3) Your daughter can apply/petition for a green card for you, since she is a US citizen and you are a relative. This might take a while to be approved.
There are probably more ways, but these are the ones that pop into my mind and are the easiest.
Keep in mind that you must not lie to the USCIS about your reason for entering the US. If you apply for a tourist visa but actually plan to marry her father and stay here, the immigration may refuse your entry and say you lied to get into the country and even worse, may ban you for entry for a period of time.

Um, if you have convictions or something that would take you out of the visa waiver program, that is different, but otherwise I think Italy has a visa waiver program with us so that all you need is your passport. I never had a visa when I went to Italy.

The U.S. gov't can prohibit any non citizen from entering the country for any reason they feel fits at the time.
don't play games with immigration.

Most likely will allow you to visit. Many people visit the US everyday and they dont restrict them too much.
