FIRST OFF CONGRATS. I MY SELF JUST GOT ENGAGED ON CHRISTMAS. HOW TO TELL YOUR FAMILY DEPENDS ON HOW CLOSE YOU ARE TO THEM AND IF YOUR FATHER IS OLD FASHION ABOUT HIS KIDS WEDDINGS. MINE ALWAYS SAID THE GUY WOULD HAVE TO ASK HIM FIRST. SO IF YOUR CLOSE I WOULD MAKE PLANS TO HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR FAMILY AND HAVE BILL ASK YOUR FATHER FOR YOUR HAND IN MARRIGE. IM SURE HE WONT TELL YOU NO BECAUSE YOU ARE ALREADY PLANNING IT.

IF YOUR NOT CLOSE IM SURE A PHONE CALL WILL DO FINE. I AGREE WITH warren_zevon_1 ON HOW TO TELL THEM ON THE PHONE.

WELL I HOPE YOU TELL THEM SOON AND JUST GET IT OVER WITH IT GETS HARDER AND HARDER AS TIME PASSES. TRUST ME I WAS ACTUALLY ENGAGED FOR 5 MONTHS BEFORE CHRISTMAS. WE JUST PLANNED TO TELL THEM THAT DAY.

planning a wedding is a huge ordeal and often includes months of planning including help from friends and family. I hope you are already most of the way done with your arrangements by now!

Anyway the best way to tell them is just be straightforward. "Mom, I'm getting married." is usually the best.

Better get to informing them pretty quickly as time is getting near. Why they would not be aware and happy for you already I do not know. This is a special day for you so I'd suggest that you let everyone in on this as soon as possible.

Call them and tell them the following:

"I have some wonderful news: Bill asked me to marry him, and I said yes!"

They should congratulate you, and ask whether you have set a date. This is when you tell them the date.

Good luck!

my question: did you give your family any hints that an engagement was in the works?
in any case tell them like...now. specially your parents. then begin the plans and get them involved in the planning. be sure to make it fun.

JUST TELL THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I called my Mom the night it happened., crying of course. I waited until I saw my Dad as he and I are not as close to tell him. I didn't make a huge deal out of it on either occassion but I made sure to tell them both, not let them find out via the rumor mill or in a letter or anything.

Why would ya? Save yourself some phone calls. Just send them birth announcements after your first child is born.

When you said there was a big ho down at the trailer park, I didn't believe you till I saw the pic. That's the biggest ho I'VE ever seen.

I'd say, "I'm engaged & getting married in June".

You're running out of time.
