If not, don't know why. We all need protection no matter where we live. And i would imagine that pepper spray would be a bit "nicer" than a gun or a knife.

Remember mace and pepper spray are not the same thing. I don't live in the UK so I can't help for knowing if it is legal. As far as paint goes, it's great to identify the attacker, but I would want something that is going to stop him. I would rather spray him with a substance that is going to cause pain which will cause him to stop his attack. I don't want to get robbed/attacked by a person with a blue face. It will probably make it HARDER to identify him later on because you won't be able to recognize him once the paint is removed. EDIT: I just read that it is illegal. So what can you guys do to defend yourself in the UK?

Pepper or CS spray is Illegal in the UK but there is a good legal alternative. You can get a spraycan which fires a high pressure jet of expanding foam which covers and temporarilly blinds an assailant, it also dyes them a funny colour for up to a week so the police can find an attacker.

Have a look at eBay item number 150080998129 or similar

UK: Any article, made, adapted or intended to cause injury is an offensive weapon and a criminal offense. Prevention of Crimes Act, 1953.

Pepper spray is included. You may be arrested and imprisoned if convicted.

However, if you are attacked, you may defend yourself with any article which you are carrying legally, provided that the force used is 'reasonable'. This can include keys, pens, shoes, plastic cards, belts etc. It would not be 'reasonable' if you were being punched by a much smaller person than yourself and you used a hammer to defend yourself.

Hi guys
pepper spray doesnt just come under the offensive weapons laws, it is actually counted as a firearm and as such you can get up to ten years free board and lodgings for having it. If you get caught trying to get it sent into the country you are looking at similar penalties, and the food isnt that good in prison!!

No you cannot buy it in the UK. As someone else has said it is classed here as a fire arms and carries a heavy sentence if caught. Personally I feel its worth the risk and I take my chances as I dont want to get attacked by the thugs that hang around our streets now. I brought mine during a holiday to the states and brought it back through customs in my make up bag, concealed in my suitcase xxxxxxxxxx

I think you can buy pepper spray from somewhere. I've never tried to buy it but I've heard of women carrying it.

you can't buy it in this country, however there are a number of web sites that you can buy it from in the US, however remember carrying it in public could be seen as commiting an offence as you have "gone out of your way to protect yourself using illeagle substances as self defence" which carries a 6 months prison sentence!!!
