I don't believe there is any such thing as a "miniature" GSD. Anyone who tries to sell you one would likely be selling you the product of inbreeding, breeding runts, or breeding with other breeds.

Miniature Shepherds do not exist and I hope nobody starts trying to make them. You could not have one as a kid unless you had a mix that looked like a shepherd or a dwarf Shepherd. If you had a (miniature)dwarf shepherd it did not live very long. As for finding a breeding pair of miniature shepherds it will be nearly impossible because almost all dwarf shepherds are unable to reproduce because the are usually sterile. Dogs with Pituitary Dwarfism have many health problems, they lose their hair, their adult teeth have problems coming in, they have many health problems and do not live for very long ,only a couple of years.
German Shepherds are great dogs why not just look for a reputable GSD breeder and get a smaller female to keep as a pet. No need for two because dogs are not money making machines.

Even if you think smaller shepherds are rare perhaps there is a reason for that. There is a breed standard and no where in the standard does it call for shepherds to be smaller. They were bred with a specific purpose in mind. If you are interested in breeding you should learn as much as possible about the breed and if and when you decide to breed you should do so according to the standard. The GSD has a lot of problems within the breed because of irresponsible people breeding inferior dogs.
I have a hard time with believing you had a miniature in Germany because the SV has very strict breeding rules and from what I understand if the dogs are not right(white ,dwarfs) they usually do not live. Maybe it is like here that people breed when they should not.

The German Shepherd Dog (male) should be around 25 inches at the shoulder. There is no such thing as a miniature GSD. If you want a GSD, buy a GSD. If you want a smaller breed, do some research. Sounds as if yours was either a crossbreed or an untypical example of the breed.
Dwarfism is, of course, an inherited condition in GSDs & one you certainly wouldn't breed for intentionally as it carries withit many other health problems.

There is no such thing as a miniature GSD. GSD's should be bred within the standard which is made up by the GSDCA. 22 to 24 inches for bitches and 24 to 26 inches for dogs. I myself like the smaller Shepherds for working, it is nice to have an agile dog on the field. Smaller, I am meaning within the standard of our breed. If you are looking for a GSD, I would look for a breeder that is breeding within the standard, and does the necessary health screening on their breeding animals, and shows as well, either in conformation, Schutzhund or obedience.

There is no such thing as a "miniature" German Shepherd..A German Shepherd is a German Shepherd and needs to adhere to the size standard as set forth by the breeds parent club.

Buying a "breeding" pair is mainly a BYB type of thing. Responsible breeders do NOT buy "breeding pairs".

i've had gsd's all my life, and have never heard of a miniture. when i went to the website that someone recommended, there
weren't any on there either. there were a bunch of pictures of mixed breed dogs that were supposed to be purebreds. the top of the page said miniture gsd's but i didn't see anything that was a gsd either.
i think you may have had a mixed breed that looked like a gsd when you were a kid.
unless you are a professional breeder, don't bring anymore unwanted animals into the world. we already have more then we need. you don't get rich off breeding them either if you are responsibile and take them to the vet as is necessary.

Be very aware of people saying they have "mini" GSD. There are pituitary dwarfs that look like mini GSD but are actually born with that medical condition and can live a very short life and rack up some serious medical bills.

There is no such thing as a miniature german shepherd. If you had one as a kid, it was a mutt. German shepherds are one of the breeds not yet ruined by idiots trying to "miniaturize" them.
