Cortizone shots only help for a short amount of time. They are super painful and can actually be detrimental to your catrilage and tendon structure. To me, they aren't worth it. If you can take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, they should help with the swelling and the stiffness.

I know exactly what you are going through because I have arthritis in my left thumb. I'm 24 years old and, unfortunately, allergic to all anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen, etc). I also have arthritis in my knees and tendonitis in both of my wrists. I've had several cortizone shots, and the pain from the shot itself lasts for days ... then I feel relief for about a week and that's it. If you're in the same situation as me, and can't take NSAID's, there are a few things I've learned that help temporarily relieve the pain --
1)Soak your hand in warm salt water. It soothes the pain and actually can help relieve some of the swelling.
2) Ask for referral to a physical therapist. They can help you learn how to use your hands without causing your arthritis to flare up.

I hope that this helps. Good luck.

I'd encourage you to check out a new product called Castiva. It's a new arthritis lotion that comes in both a warming and cooling formulas. It's pretty new to market and not available in a lot of stores yet but you can order it from the company's website. It's http://www.castivabrands.com. They have information on there about how the product works and what makes it different from other products you may have tried in the past. Right now it looks like they're offering free shipping on $25+ orders. You could order one of each and try both to see which one might offer you the best results. It looks like they even offer a money-back guarantee in case it doesn't work for you. As with any product YMMV. Some things work for some people and not for others. Give it a shot. What do you have to lose?

Taking lots of all natural Alfalfa Complex has really helped me. It's rich in trace minerals and enzymes. The roots of the alfalfa plant reaches as deep as 20 feet into the soil which brings forth minerals in their most natural form.

Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me if interested in the website.
