It's all right to be scared of flying.

Here are some things to do to occupy your self:

1) Most planes have TV's (on long term flights), occupy yourself by focusing on the television

2) You could sit by the window while the plane takes off and distract yourself by looking down at the ground. It actually helps in a way to see how beautiful and wonderous everything looks from above.

3) Or you could sit away from the window

4) If your afraid of someone Hi-Jacking the plane (Lots of people are) just remind yourself, if you see the fasten seat belt sign go on in some times and off, the pilot's still there. If the cabin crew is acting perfectly normal, pilot's still there. If you hear the pilot's voice on the intercom/speaker, pilot's still there!

5) Close your eyes and think of something pleasant when you get scared, and grab on to the arm chairs beside and you squeeze and squeal until you get it out of your system.

6) Or you could squeeze on to something and think of something completely unrelated to the plane

7) Take your favorite novel/book onto the plane and get into it - You'll find that you'll be so deep into the book you won't notice anything around you.

8) Start a conversation with someone around you.

9) Sleep! You could sleep throughout the entire flight without being aware that your even on a plane.

10) You could ask one of the cabin crew members on advice on what to do if your still scared, they'll be more then happy to help you.

11) If your a certain religon, you can recite some verses/stories from your Holy Book and eventually relax thinking that God is with you.

12) Bring an electronic on the plane (JUST DON'T PLAY IT DURING TAKE OFF AND LANDING - It messes with the plane's flight control) to play with.

13) This may sound silly, but, bring clay/play-do on the plane and squish it around and make something! It's actually quite effective, it relieves stress and distracts you.

14) Listen to music, bring an I-Pod or MP3 player - If you don't have any portable music devices, don't worry! The plane has its own radio! Just ask for head phones and plop 'em in the plug and listen to around fifteen channels of diffrent kinds of music!

Good luck! If you need any more help or advice just Yahoo me at Pastismylove@hotmail.com

I go on planes at least six times a year! I'd be more then happy to help you.

And if I think of anything else I promise to keep on adding more suggestions.

well I would look it straight in the eye and defy it .Be a man, not a mouse.
You should really only be scared when it is flying. I run like the hammers if I see an airplane.
You could speak to the folks at Airplanes Anonymous because they are very good with phobias.Ask for Ann,not very good but a laugh when she is one mile high.

Relax and don't worry. If you are too scared, I would suggest taking a sleeping pill or two so you will sleep through the flight. Or, try some type of alcohol.
