I know the government recommends a person eat only two cans of tuna a _week_ because of mercury, but I just can't believe mercury poisoning is such a serious problem for healthy adults. Isn't it sickening that humans are ruining the quality of their best food sources and won't even do anything about it? Do you know of any organic brands that sell mercury-safe tuna?

Its not as high in murcury as shark or blue marlin. In fact you can eat a can everyday and its better than eating a burger every day. Also the tuna is rich in omega 3 fatty acids that are good for the heart.Keep eating it.

Mercury free tuna is basically economically impossible, or at least near impossible. Fish raised for mass consumption is done in lakes and oceans, all of which are contaminated to some degree.

Mercury poisoning and resisting it is not a matter of being a healthy adult. Like with lead poisoning, it does affect younger people more severely but not because their immune system is weaker. It's because they're still developing, and because they are smaller. The adult human body will suffer the effects basically just the same. The metal builds up in the body and doesn't leave. It's definitely a problem.

Industry all over the globe has improved its practices significantly from its early stages. The Hudson River, the Charles River, Lake Michigan... All of these resources were so polluted you really couldn't set foot in them. Now people boat and swim... There is still plenty of pollution, yes, but the point is it's much better than it used to be!

When I was pregnant I was told to limit my tuna consumption to 1 can a week, but I don't think there is any kind of restriction now. Also, it seems like the mercury risk is higher in the chunk white/albacore tuna (the lighter one in terms of the color of the fish) than in the chunk light one (it's usually cheaper and darker fish).

I BELIEVE EATING A CAN OF TUNA DAILY WOULD NOT INCUR ANY HEALTH RISK TO YOU!!! THE REASON IS YOUR EATING SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT!!! THE OTHER REASON BEING THAT ANY TOXINS APPEAR TO ACCUMULATE IN THE SKIN AND ORGANS OF THE FISH!!!!
