5 years from now, would you regret not going back in? How much would you regret it?

If you think you'd regret it a lot, talk to your girlfriend about the way you feel and come to a decision between you.

I wonder whether subconsciously you see the army as a kind of escape from every day pressures at home and being in the army would get you away from this....not saying you want to be away from your family, but are there other things bothering you? Think really hard about this, because if you do go back to the army it needs to be for the right reason.

Ask yourself this ; 'What would I gain from being in the army?'

Then ask : Would it be a relief to go back? If so, then why?
You see, when you say you think about it every second of the day, it sounds as though your mind takes you to this place of thought as an avoidance of something else. At least consider this.

I hope that helped a bit.

Best wishes with whatever you choose.

I know its exciting. There are a lot of things in ones life that WAS good at the time but we have to learn to move on. The Army pay is rubbish and with a girl ans 3 kids its time to hang up your Khakis mate and if you like a regimental life join the Police. The pay is better.

Hello mate i feel for you man i really do. I'm ex mob myself 4&a half years in the irish guards .Surely if your EOD you could get a civvy job in iraq or afghanistan. With much better money and shorter term contracts. The risks would be the same but we would'nt be talking if you didn't enjoy risk right, there are loads of civvy companies with contracts in iraq and afghanistan, im sure you could get in contact through your regimental association or something i hope that helps some mate.

What are you waiting for...............go!!! You know what Army life is all about,if really WANT to go back in, you should go.
Wouldn't your family get Army Quarters/housing? The pay you guy's receive is not brilliant for what you do,but you know that when joining up. If you are dedicated, then sacrifices have to be made. YOU have to decide if those sacrifices are worth it. None of us can help you on that one. Whatever you decide, good luck to you.

What about joining a TA unit? You may be able to join them and possibly continue with your previous rank. That way, you can still see your wife, kids and have fun in the army.

Be a military advisor. You might be sent to train Iraqi or Afganistan troops/police. You are the type of people they are looking for.
