I am cohosting a bridal shower and one of the brides maids suggested having a games at the shower. I was wondering if anyone has been to a shower where they had games and if you liked it or not? If you liked it, may I ask what kind of games? The bride's family is very uptight (in nice terms) and the grooms family is very laid back - so we have a collection of folks there! haa. Thanks for your responses.

Every bridal and baby shower I have gone to have games. They have all been quite different. From "Who knows the bride and groom best", to unscramble bridal terms game, clothes pin game,(with this one, everyone gets 2 clothes pins when they arrive at the shower. You inform everyone that they cant say a particular word like "wedding" or the grooms name. When a person catches another saying that word, they get one of their clothes pins. The person with the most clothes pins wins. There are many more. What I am doing at my nieces shower is very simple. I am having all guests fill out the return envelope for the thank you card. I am drawing 2 names from the pile and giving them 2 a centerpiece. Then I am having each guest fill out a "Words of Wisdom" card for the bride, drawing 2 names from that pile and giving 2 centerpieces. I am not doing any other games, as it is a small shower and we are doing it in 3 hours. I have made and am giving each guest 3 handmade favors I have done. Should be quick and simple....Good luck

Games at a bridal shower are no longer a necessarity, so it is best to ask the bride for her preference. Most bride's have a very strong opinion about whether or not they want games to be played at the shower.

If your bride wants games, here are a few fun ones:

Who Knows the Couple?
Make a questionare with questions about the couple and their relationship (how long have they been together, when was their first date, etc). Everyone fills one out and the most right wins.

Clothes Pin Game
Everyone is given a clothes pin when they enter the shower. Select a predetermined wedding word (such a Bride or the Groom's Name) and whenever a guest says the taboo word, the quickest person to notice takes their clothes pin. The most clothes pins at the end wins.

The Purse Game
It's a classic. Make up a list with point values of items that could be in a purse (lip stick, atm card, pictures) and award points based on how many of each item is in everyones purse. The person with the most points or the most predetermined items wins.

Recipe Cards
It's not a game, but it's a great idea: With the invitations, send a recipe card. Ask each guest to bring their husband, brother, or sons favorite recipe. Put them all in a book to give the bride as a keepsake and a sure-fire recipe book.

Hope these ideas help you -- remember to talk to your bride first!

even though some find it boring, it will pass the time and it will be fun for the most part. Not everyone has to join in, others can do what they do best and talk or pick at the food, but for those who want to join in they will surely have a blast. Here are some games to play..
-Have a sticker under a plate or cup and at the end who ever has the sticker gets a prize
- Have three prizes in the middle and ask a few questions about the bride and groom, when someone gets it right than they pick their prize and so on, once the prizes are all gone from the middle, keep asking the questions, if someone gets it right rather than one of the people holding the prize than they get to steal the a prize from whoever they want and so on, ask about ten questions. Who ever is left with a prize gets to keep it.
-print out a searchword game with wedding words, have a time limit and who ever gets the most words wins

Here are a couple of games I've played at a bridal shower recently. It's nothing over the top for the "uptight" crowd, but also not boring for the others. Enjoy and have fun!!

Memory Game
Place fifteen to twenty small wedding related items on a tray and cover them with a lace napkin. To play this game, place the tray in the center of your guests for two minutes. Cover the tray again and ask the guests to write down as many of the items as they can remember. The person who remembers the most, wins a prize.

Penny Prize
Place a penny under a coffee cup and saucer and give the certerpiece to the person who sits in that chair.

In my experience, the simpler the game the better. One of the worst games was "Bridal Shower Bingo." Don't do it! It is sooo boring. Basically, you are given a blank Bingo card, you fill in each square with names of gifts the bride may receive. As she opens her gifts you check off the boxes and whoever get a bingo first wins. First off, filling out the cards took forever, then trying to see what the bride got, finding it on your card was a real hassle. Most people just want to eat and talk and not be bothered with games. If you really want them, make them simple and fast. My bridesmaids purchased "Bridal Shower Scratch offs" which look like lottery tickets. Whoever gets the prince, wins a prize. That was as far as I was willing to go with the games. Another shower I attended, they had an egg timer set to go off every 10 minutes or so, whoevers gift was being opened when the timer went off got a prize. I would skip the "toilet paper bride" game unless there are lots of young women there. If you want to involve everyone at the shower in the same activity, I highly suggest the recipe cards as well, and/or a cake plate or picture frame mat that everyone signs or writes good wishes for the couple.

I went to a bridal shower for a girl I used to work with last year and one of the games was hilarious. One of the groom-to-be's sisters asked him ten questions about himself (such as his favorite cartoon as a kid or his favorite color) and then asked the bride-to-be what the answers were (to see how well she knew him). The guests were told to guess how many questions she would get right.
At my cousin's bridal shower we played the taboo word game. We couldn't say her soon-to-be-husband's name Matt, wedding, blue or yellow (her wedding colors), or cake. If you did say one of these words, you had to wear a very embarrassing hat with a great big styrofoam men's-part on it until someone else said one of the words and then they had to wear it. You can do the ribbons thing (who has the most ribbons) since your soon-to-be-husband's family might not find this as hilarious as we did. But, I must say, I does break the ice!

I was so glad my MOH asked me what I wanted to do for my shower, because I didn't really want to play games -- we ended up going to get mani/pedis at a little spa nearby and it was tons of fun and not so forced. So, my first suggestion would be to ask the bride what she wants.

If you want to go ahead with games, I did attend a friend's shower and they made a Bingo game out of gifts from her registry (she just printed out different boards with the gift names typed in boxes, nothing very complex or expensive). So, each time she opened a gift, we crossed off a square if we had it until someone won. That was cute because it made the attendees interested in what she was opening.

Good luck and have fun!
