Child sacrifice was the custom in many surrounding cultures and was probably also practiced by the Israelites. Abraham seemed to know exactly where to go... how did he know that?

We learned from the near sacrifice of Isaac that child sacrifice may have been practiced by surrounding cultures, but it was forbidden to God's chosen people. The Israelite God allowed grains, oils, little critters and small animals to be sacrificed, but NEVER a human being. The only time God allowed His people to kill others was to save a life.

The grains, oils, and critters sacrificed were used to feed the Levites who had no land or means of support. The only part of the sacrifice meant for God was the aroma. Consider that the next time you have an outdoor BBQ, the aroma is meant for God.

God was testing Abraham, and Abraham was faithful. God did not allow Abraham to sacrifice his son, but instead presented Abraham with a perfect lamb. All of this was to show Abraham that God would someday send His own son as the perfect sacrifice.

That was a one time thing and he never meant for Abraham to actually kill his son it was a test of his faith in God. Abraham knew that either way Isaac was going to live to have the Jews for his offspring.

No. God was testing Abraham's faith. Abraham knew that Isaac was the fulfillment of a promise of God that He would make Abraham the father of many nations. Isaac was born when Abraham & Sarah were very old and after Sarah had been barren all of her life. There would be no more children for them. Abraham knew that God would deliver Isaac because He knew He would have to for the promises to be fulfilled. He had faith. God honored that faith & spared Isaac.

It was completely unusual. God knew what Abraham's answer would be. He simply wanted to show Abraham. Note that God stopped him.

God doesn't speak the same way anymore obviously. The only sacrifice we have now is Jesus.

It appears to be unusual; especially since God specifically promised to Abraham that he would create a mighty nation through Issac alone (Abraham obvious knew something unusual was up, according to the apostle Paul).

Remember; G-d is outside time & knew how Abraham would respond; even before He asked the qquestion of Abraham.
However, if you study the text, Abraham told his servants that BOTH he & the boy would return. He had faith that his son would somehow be restored. After all; he was the son of promise.

Prophesy. Abraham receives this prophesy 2000 years before Christ. Abraham tell Issac God will provide himself a lamb. Moses reveals this prophesy 1500 years before Christ.

he believed that he would be resurrected. he was showing faith in the resurrection.
Why is it that if God's asks you to sacrifice your son he is a monster and he was going to resurrecte him. But some man in the white house asks you to sacrifice your son and it is expected and no body complains and he can't even bring him back from the dead and doesn't even profess to.
Why is he so superior to God?
