You can either be stationed at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio, Ft Hood in Killeen(no it does not suck), and Ft Bliss which in in El Paso (we were stationed there from 2000-2005 and loved it) now we're headed to Ft Hood where I was born. There you're closer to Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Arlington, and Houston. Texas is a great place to live. El Paso is a lot further from any big city with drives taking you about 8-12 hours either direction. Yes, you can and will get stationed in Texas if you're from Texas. I'm from Texas and got stationed right back in El Paso where I enlisted at and my home of record. The Army is always more than willing to send you to Ft Hood because that is a base with rapid deployment. It all depends on your husbands MOS as to where he can go.

Fort Hood, near Killeen, is the largest Army post in Texas and therefore the most likely destination. Fort Bliss, near El Paso, or Fort Sam Houston (in San Antonio) are other possibilities.

Ft. Hood...Killeen. Its in central Texas about 2 hrs from Austin. Its a pretty good area.

Ft. Sam Houston...San Antonio...That is the medical AIT base I don't know how many reg soldiers that have. And of course San Antonio is a great area. Very expensive though.

Ft. Bliss...El Paso...I've never been there, but nearly everyone that I know that has said there is a reason for the name...you just want to El Paso it...ha ha lame i know. hope this helps!

If you are saying he is from Texas & wants to join, it is unlikely he will be sent to Texas. My son is within 1-1/2 hrs of one of the Army's biggest bases & he is in NY (a 10 hr drive). My nephews are in GA &one is close to home but will be transferred to TX when he gets back from Iraq. They pay no attention to where you live.

If he has been assigned TX, then most of the Army soldiers we know are at Ft Bliss or Ft Hood.

Just because your husband is in Texas means nothing to the military. My buddy wife was station in pear harbor and he was station at Norfolk.
