Technically yes, but you are missing out on a lot of important detail such as understanding the fulfillment of the prophecy...and a lot of great verses in Pslams, Ecclesiastics, Proverbs...not to mention the history of your beliefs. cal

Abssolutely!
The difficulty comes in two ways - but don't let these stop you from following Christ's teachings and throwing away the Bible.
a) One of Christ's teachings was that he came to fulfill the Law and that we need to as well. hmmmm
b) The 12 disciples get mixed reviews for getting it. The only trained theologian, Paul, got a great deal more press for his brief but informative meeting w/ Jesus. In other words, you will be throwing out a great interpretative assist if you throw out the whole Bible. Your choice though, feel free to do so.

The parable of new wine in old wineskins warns us not to practice the teachings of Jesus Christ with the ideas of the Old Testament. Matthew 9:16&17. He says in John 5:39&40 that there is no salvation in the the Scriptures which was the Old Testament at that point in time.

Jesus Christ says that His words are spirit. This means that His words have meaning and fulfillment in the spiritual only. This is the case beacuse Jesus came to save the spirit of man that died in the Garden of Eden in Paradise. His Mission has nothing to do with the flesh.

If you follow the directives of Jesus Christ, baptism backed by the New Covenant, unites you with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Romans 6:3-10; Galatians 3:27; Colossians 2:12. You are born of water. Your spirit is now reconciled with GOD and can now be born of Spirit. John 3:3-8. Your spirit can now be led to do the will of GOD, have the righteousness of GOD, and live forever with GOD. But if all you have done is to 'give your life to Christ', this takes you nowhere. It is not the teaching of Christ.

When you are born of Spirit, the Spirit takes control and you have nothing to worry about.

Once you have confessed Jesus Christ your Lord & Savior and believed He atoned for your sins and raised from the dead, then your are born of God through heart faith.

Not by works lest anyone boast.

Renew your mind in the Word of God. If you sin, confess your sin and He is faithful & just to forgive you your sin.

So? The Old Testament isn't needed once you are saved. But once you are saved, you will want to study the Holy Bible, all of it. And God never changes. He is still the LORD God of Israel and still the LORD God of those born of God through faith in Christ (Christians).

I am a Christian and I ask the Lord if I should throw out the OT? The answer in my spirit is a Question (and answer). "Why would you want to throw out the Old Testament? I AM in the Old Testament also. I AM that I AM."

Not if you really read Christ's teachings. They refer to the rest of the bible quite a bit.

That's what President Thomad Jefferson did. He published a Bible called 'The Life of Jesus of Nazareth' that excluded all theological doctrine and focused on Jesus's ethical teachings.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it, although I do see the temptation. Just view the bible as a mountain, and Jesus as the peak.

You could do that, but you would be leaving out a big part of the picture cause it is all connected. God has revealed himself thru all the scriptures. As you get to know him better you will see his nature and his ways displayed in all the Bible.Do some research and find out the origin of the scriptures and you will be able to answer your own question.

Nothing wrong with that! That's a really good idea. I, too follow a lot of his teachings- on a person to person level, they work comfortably... and I don't even believe in Jesus!

Chef Bob sounds like quite the totalitarian there! All or nothing sounds pretty unreasonable/unforgiving... Jesus taught forgiveness... you tell me if you're making the right choice!

If you follow Christ's teachings than you love God, who is Jesus, who is the Word, who is true. So the word is true, and you'd have to also believe the word.

Christ's teachings are the very basis of faith in his word, better said, the Bible.

No. It is all God's Word and should be studied and read. There is prophesy and history. The OT is the foundation for Christ. It validates His coming as God's Messiah, the Savior. To throw out the OT weakens the New.
