It is illegal. They probably did not pay attention to pull it. But do this (Idid), Ok instead of telling them tell the company that made the candy. If you tell the store you bought it from they will usually apologize and trade you. But, if you tell the company who made the product, they usually reimburse the candy and send coupons that are good for 100% of more of their product. I did that once on some chips.

They can sell expired food if it's discounted.
Just an FYI, the expiration date is not magic, the food doesn't go bad on that day. It can go bad before, or after. The expiration dare is just a suggestion. Something like candy might have another several months of shelf life.

They can, but they should also still guarantee the product. Take it back and ask for a refund or replacement.
We have a store here that sells groceries at a discount (overstocks, etc). Some of their products are past dated, but they are generally marked with a big tag that says "Past Dated, 100% Guaranteed".
I did buy a "family pack" of chips once. The tag on the bag said it was dated for a date about a month in the future. However, when I opened the bag, the individual bags inside were dated for a few DAYS out. I took it back and they gladly replaced it.

no expired good should be pulled from the shelf on the day of expiration however some discout stores can sell then for a short time after the expiration date.
this is nomaly safe as product can last months beyond the experation date with little problems but some time one in 100 can go bad faster so the experation date is based on the max time any off the product would go bad

Usaully that date is only a sell by date, but the product should still be good for a couple weeks depending on what it is. Plus, they should let customers know as well as offer a discounted price.

Take them back if you are unhappy. They should not be selling them unless they are discounted and you are made aware that it is an expired product.

you can return any part that is left for a full refund.I dont think there is much you can do about it as it was probably just an oversight but beware that if that slipped by always check your milk products
