My very picky boyfriend wants a chocolate chip cake for his birthday and I could not find one that is sold in a box at the store. I dont have a lot of the ingredients or the bakeware needed to make a lot of these recipies online so I was hoping to just add chips to a white cake mix. I actually did it once, though, and all of the chips sunk to the bottom in the oven. How can I prevent this from happening? Use smaller chips? Chop the chips? Tell him to hire Betty Crocker next year?? I need this by Jan 26th. Thanks!!!

put a couple of tablespoons of the cake mix into a bowl with the chips and toss to coat. DON'T add more flour it will make the cake tougher. coating the chips will keep them from sinking just fold them into the batter just before you are going to put the batter in the pan. also over mixing will cause the chips to sink as well. use this method for muffins too.

I agree with steph but it might take longer than 5 mins but... Ive never done this. Use your best jugdment maybe even test it out in 5 mins put a few in stir it and if they don't sink then 5 mins is long enough if they sink put it back for a few more mins and try it again.

try adding the chocolate chips after the cake has already started to bake. what i mean is, make your cake, then put it in the oven, wait about 5 min. no more then add your chips

Take a tablespoon or a liitle more of flour and coat the choco chips with it. This should prevent them from sinking.

I personally would tell him to hire betty next year! I would actually do what the others said about flouring the chips but I would want to do the Betty thing! Good luck!
