my parents did it this way (we're from Dominican Republic so it was a tradition back in the 50's and 60's)

during the engagement the couple wears the actual wedding bands on their right hand. then on the day of the wedding the rings were removed, placed in the ringbearer's pillow, and after the blessing the rings were worn on their left hands.

mommy always shows me her engagement pictures where both my parents appear with their bands on their right hands and look really happy. they have been married 42 years!

I wanted to try this with my ex-fiance, but in the States it didnt work. he gave me a standard engagement ring.
with my new boyfriend I want the same (with a real diamond of course)

Rings can get in the way,I had one bought for me,however I was told that because I was an engineer I had to take it off before work on health and safety grounds.
I then got used to not waring it and my wife (of 25 years now) bought me an engagement pressy of which I still have on my desk to date.

no, but in different cultures there are different traditions my husband is from Brazil and there tradition is when they are engaged the man will wear his wedding band on the right hand and then when they marry it switches to the left, even though this was tradition in Brazil i did not give my husband his ring until the day of the wedding, just depends on different cultures

Usually not. However, my wife gave me a nice man's ring to wear on my right hand as a token of our relationship when we dated. I found it to be a very meaningful gesture on her part.
