If you believe in the Bible, do you believe the Bible is the LITERAL word of God?

Why or why not?

Many Christians have different views on if the Bible is to be taken literally. (Was Eve really made from a rib, or was it a metaphor? Did Noah really fit 2 of every animal in an ark? Etc.)

Yes, in the original texts.
There are parables, allegories, poetry, songs, and history.
Keep them in context of the entire work.
Many are too quick to lift out 3 words and proclaim them as truth (or contradiction)

Yes I do believe the Bible is the Literal word of God. It was written by men under DIVINE inspiration. I believe because I know the author Himself and He doesn't lie. He is truth and the Bible is true. It makes total sense.

When reading the Bible it's important to do a couple of things. 1). Pray and ask God to show you what it means.
2). Research what the words mean in the original Hebrew & Greek. Many times people get confused about the words' meanings. When this happens they get confused or misled.

Yes, I do believe that Eve was literally made from Adam's rib. And yes, Noah did fit 2 of every animal "according to it's KIND." It wasn't, for example, every breed of dog but 2 dogs that could later be breed into different breeds. I do believe this was possible. They could have been baby animals and I've heard it suggested that God probaly caused them to hibernate during the flood.

Sorry to get off track but yes, I do believe the Bible is the literal word of God.

Peace!
The Bible is the word of God in the words of men. It is inerrant when it teaches eternal and universal truths. The Bible does not always teach. There are many things in it which are there for geographic, historical or poetic reasons. The important thing is the revelation. So when we read the Bible, it is best that we read it in the same level it was written - spiritual. If you do this, God will speak to you through the pages of the Bible. That I guarantee.

If so, then there are a lot of Christians that aren't doing their duty.

If the bible is to be taken literally, then Christians should be killing people that serve food at that restaurant on Sunday after church (Exodus 35:2). It's VERY specific about how ANYONE working on the sabbath shall be put to death, so why not take the written "word of God" literally?

But if you don't, then that means the bible is open to individual interpretation and can be followed according to individual morality.

Logically, that leads to the whole thing about homosexuals being "an abomination" and how to treat them being nothing more than a Christian's INTERPRETATION of God's word.

So all Christians that denounce homosexuals as sinners are really only proselytizing their own hateful agenda, not spreading God's word.

Yes! The Bible is God's spoken Word to us! He used man to write it, but He was speaking through them. The Lord actually took a rib from Adam and made Eve. Noah did fit 2 of every animal in the ark. but back then there weren't as many animals as there are now. there are a lot of crossbreeds now.

I do not believe it is reasonable to accept it as the literal word of God. The Hebrew scriptures are the record of a people's attempt to separate themselves from their neighbors by establishing strict codes of conduct. It's a cultural treasure chest of ancient beliefs and customs upon which a great people were founded and which mark the stages of their growth. Likewise, the Christian scriptures are an attempt to form a new religion based upon the revolutionary ideas of a Jewish spiritual leader who probably had no intention of creating a new religion, just reforming Judaism.

As for Adam and Eve, it is merely a creation myth, one of literally hundreds, if not thousands. Science has taught us that it should not be interpreted literally.

No, they are the in common words ones without the brains to settle for the actual shown reality that technology has refuted Genesis. I hate to interrupt it to you, yet in case you've faith that dinosaurs and Neanderthals existed then you definately do not save on with the Bible actually. it would want to be ridiculous so that you may disclaim the archeological info.

No, because it has been translated soooo many times in the past and now what we read now as the bible is the end result of Chinese whispers.

I will not suppose to intepret God's word, but as the old time saying goes,"If I say a pig will plow, hitch'em up." That is to say, you may not understand, but that does not make it so.

No, it's a fictionalized history of the Jewish people, passes on orally through many generations, being slightly changed with each telling, and written by people who were not there when the events occured.
