After you read (a book, a poem, etc etc) do you feel that you live a better life by the things you do - as a result of reading - the book - In other words, you read a poem & as a result this poem motivates you do donate time to kids helping them learn how to read.

She believes true literature changes people. That they are inspired by what they have read.

I believe reading has had a profound effect on my life, so I would agree with this quotation.

It seems to me that she is saying, that the best literature inspires us to live better, or "more intensly" after we read it.
