No dog is untrainable, unless it is incurably human aggressive. You probably just haven't found the right motivation for your pup. Some dogs are motivated by food, others by toys, others by play, and others by praise. I'm sure there are a ton of other motivators out there too. Your best bet is to work with a trainer who is familiar with a wide range of training techniques and can help you figure out what motivates your pup to excel.

Your dog may also not understand your training methods, or you (as almost every human is) may be inconsistent in your signals that you give him. Dogs are VERY adept at reading body launguage and while your voice may be saying one thing, your body can be telling him something conflicting. This is also where working with a well-rounded, adaptable trainer will come in handy. S/he can teach you how to give clear, consistent signals to your dog that he will be able to understand and learn from.

Good luck!

There isn't such thing as an untrainable dog but there is such thing as an untrainable owner. I would enroll in dog training class perhaps a one on one session with the trainer. If you work very hard with your dog you will be successful. It's all about how much work you put into it. Also watch The Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic channel for tips on how to retrain yourself when working with your dog. Call your vet today and they might know of someone that they recommend and you can get started soon with training. Good luck

Your yorkie may be going through doggie puberty. During their 'teenage' years they act wild and have trouble concentrating. But this does not mean that they are untrainable, just that it will take a little more effort and consistency.

Take your furbaby to a puppy-training class. It will teach you to teach your dog. (I would recommend something with clicker training). The key is consistency, consistency, consistency. The second key is to make it fun for your dog, like a game (if your pup stops having fun, he stops paying attention).

There are books on the subject that go into much more detail (including teaching methods for a variety of trick and solutions to problem behaviors).

Remember, doggies love to please. Make it fun. And be consistent (no treats 'just because').

Hope this helps

People have this thing about SMALL dogs. One major problem is that their feet never touch the ground! A dog is a dog, not a person and if you really want to train it, you can. Contact your local canine club and enroll in the next class. You will be so amazed at how well your dog has TRAINED you!!! I have never had a dog in my classes that was not trainable! I have, however seen many well trained owners who firmly believe that their dog is not trainable... Treat your Yorkie like a regular dog. Take him for walks, keep his feet on the ground. Is your main problem house training? or basic obedience? Either can be addressed at a good puppy class.

No dog is untrainable. You need to get specific instructions for training Yorkies. I know I feel that way sometimes about my Chihuahua because they are too smart for their own good and very stubborn. But someone once gave me the same advice and it works. Consistency is the key.

Yes, The best thing to do is paper train first, then start going for walks on a regular bases which should be already doing and then let the dog take time out to use the bathroom.

Off to obediance school. The atmosphere really helps them want to please as the other boys and girls are doing so well, if your little yorkie acts up he'll be making himself embarrassed. They go along nicely with the program and you learn how to get the upper hand with your little Mr.

I've heard that Yorkies are hard to train. Run, don't walk to OBEDIENCE TRAINING for the dog. He will learn many things, one is to please his master and he'll want to be trained then to please you.
