Well it's that time of year when everyone comes down with colds so why not just call them with a husky voice and bunged up nose saying you can't make it?

As you have posted this on Singles & Dating I think you should go and hopefully meet someone that you will fall madly and deeply in love with
You could then go on to have a wonderful wedding and years of happy and meaningful love for each other
Many years of happiness with children and grand children
Have a full and happy, contented life, live to a ripe old age with the only true love of your life
You would be able to look back and say that you were so glad to have gone to that party all those years ago
The flipside is you could be bored s h i t l e s s but can you afford to take that risk
Enjoy your party

A) "I'm sorry - tonite is the night I have to wash the cat"
B) "I have a prior commitment - I really wish I could go, but family comes first!"
C) "I'm not really in a "Party Mood" - I'd just bring you all down. I think I'll stay home and read "War and Peace""
Take your pick.

just be honest, if you start making up excuses now sooner or later it will show others a side you may not want, or if you do decide you need use some excuse be sure to include your reference to the truth.being real should gain you respect in the future.

Trap your fingers in the car door on your way there then go to A&E instead. Phone them from the hospital and explain

Here are a few ideas:
'I have a family emergency!'
'I don't feel well'
It's a family member's birthday
you already had plans
your Grandma/anyone is staying and you never get to see her

Say: Thanks so much for inviting me. I'm so sorry that I won't be able to attend. I'd love to see you-- can we have lunch next Thursday instead?
(offer a counter-invite to deflect their attention. No need to give a reason or excuse or lie)
