The story is told of a giant flood not just in the bible but in other ancient sources. There is no doubt there was a flood (problaby regional but before airplanes it was the 'whole world' to those who were there). I am quite sure some people got in boats, with animals, in an attempt to survive, anyone who made it was most certanly 'blessed by the Gods' the only available information then for apparent miracles, as it is today. The story was then written down, and embellished a bit, as all miracle stories are ... so that we could remember, there is hope even in time of tragedy.

The Ark story told in Genesis has parallels in the Sumerian myth of Ziusudra, which tells how Ziusudra was warned by the gods to build a vessel in which to escape a flood which would destroy mankind. Less exact parallels are found in other cultures from around the world. Indeed, the deluge story is one of the most common folk stories throughout the world.

You can't rationalize an ark with animals on it,but you can support that there was a big bang, two molecules came together , and millions of years later we ended up with monkeys.A million years after that they turned into you.Maybe you did come from a monkey , now that you mention it.

Easy. Either you believe in miracles, or you don't. How can any rational adult defend stories about Jesus walking on water, healing the sick with a word, or coming back from the dead?

Well if we knew where it was I would defend it by setting up a perimeter.
But if you mean the Great Flood then basic geologic evidence defends that it is fact.
That is why seashells are found on the Great Basin.
Evidence of a great flood is found across the globe.

adults or just people in general are not rational. if they were there would be no myths, legends or other magic stories related as historic fact....in other words there would be no religions of any kind.

It's an ancient myth with roots in the _Epic of Gilgamesh_.
No one's gonna find the ark out there.

historically there is enough archeological evidence to show that at some point in our past there were exceptionally high sea levels, plus the fact that a flood story/legend exists in EVERY culture on the planet regardless of location or development...
