I was diagnosed in the summer of 06, with stage 0. I also have atypical ductal hyperplasia with the enlarged cells have hyperchromatic nuclei and large nucleoli. Which I have no idea what that means. I was put on the med tamoxifen by my oncologist who told me I don't have to see him again, because the meds will take care of everything, so it won't come back the cancer. I don't know if the cancer will return or weather I should find another oncologist. Please give me your opinions.

Stage 0 cancer indicates, that the cancer was not invasive, meaning it has not spread out of the duct. Therefor, you don't need systemic treatments, meaning chemo therapy. You should see another oncologist for a second opinion, because you are taking Tamoxifin and your blood should be checked on a regular basis. Your changes of getting breast cancer is the same as of a person not having breast cancer. Breast cancer is different from any other cancer, because the 5 year survival rate does not apply. Breast cancer can come back anytime at the same breast or the other breast.

A doctor that says not to come back again is highly irresponsible at best. Yes, see another oncologist. I'm not in a position to calculate the odds of the cancer recurring, but you need a physician you can trust if it does. And yes, be prepared to ask questions.

My Mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 11 years ago. She had a mastectomy. She has been cancer free untill now. I just found out about 2 hours ago she has lung cancer now. She also developed aszhimers during all of this. She has no symptoms. Found out in her routiene checkups. But everyone is different. You just never know. Just because she got more, doesn't mean you will. Take care of yourself and be sure to have yearly checkups and don't ever miss them. Take Care!

Never assume that one treatment is going to make cancer go away completely and never come back, no matter what your details are. See another doctor for a second opinion, and stay conscious of your body and your health.

i think that if you aren't satisfied with your dr.'s advice that you should seek a second opinion. not from Y!A, but from another dr. no one on here will be able to give you the kind of advice that an experienced dr(who can sit with you and get to know your certain situation)can. i hope that your dr is right and the cancer doesnt come back.

It's your right to get a second opinion. Make sure you are getting yearly mammograms too. Best wishes.
