I have a 11 week old female pit bull puppy. What should she weigh?
We have her on a strict feeding schedule, but sometimes she doesn't want to eat at these times. This is our first dog, and I want to do the best I can. Any Pitbull advice out there... Send it my way

Adult Pit Bulls can weigh anywhere from 35 to 65 pounds, so telling you how much the pup "should" weigh without knowing the size of the parents is impossible.

A good way to tell if your puppy is on-track with her weight, though, is to look at her ribcage:

If you can FEEL the ribs through her skin but you can't see them, the dog is at the proper weight for its size and age.

If you CAN'T SEE or FEEL the ribs, the pup is too fat.

If you can BOTH SEE and FEEL the ribs, the pup isn't getting enough to eat and needs extra food.

Good for you for sticking to a proper feeding schedule for this pup!

We recently took in a small, blind Pit mommy and her babies. If you'd like to see/read about her, her webpage is at:

My pit mix- mostly pit, I got her at 3 wks old because she was going to a shelter where she would have been killed. She was so tiny she fit in the palm of my hand. By eleven weeks she was still qauite small but what counts is good diet and exercise and that they are gaining and not losing weight.
She is now about 60 lbs. and very strong, considering she had been the runt of the litter. She has a very nice build.
She did not tolerate lamb or chicken which is common in dog foods so I got her on Nature's Recipe Venison and Rice. Dick Van Patten has a Natural Balance Venison variety with potato. I am sure that is good too. Venison is a meat that is gentler on the stomach.
I add Pet Botanics Beef Log, sliced and cubed, to her food. She doesn't tolerate the Lamb Log.
Sometimes you just have to see what your dog tolerates.
Also, she gets 3V Skin Caps from the Vet. This is an oil cap with Omega 3, Vit A, D and E in it. She is very healthy.
I don't recommend pig's ears, rawhides or cooked basted bones from pet stores. Dog's love them but often get sick on them. They are full of bacteria and some types have formaldehyde in them to make them hard, like compressed rawhides.
My Pit chews on mega nylabones and large nylabones. I don't buy the cornstarch bones because she can bite off big chunks and swallow them and that makes her sick.
For treats she has hard healthy dog biscuits, Meaty Bones, Denta Sticks, Stuffed Kongs, and though there is no nutritional value in the next treat I will name, my dogs go NUTS over it: Frosty Paws Dog Ice Cream, comes four cups in a box, available in large grocery stores like some Super-Target stores or Kroger's or Randall's.
It is sold in the human Ice-Cream section.
Oh, and occasionally we add a few spoons of plain yogurt, cottage cheese, or pumpkin pie filling to her food.

actally pit bulls range in weight probobly more than any dog someone said 35 to 65 lbs. they must not have seen the bullys or the sall game bred dogs. i would say 20 to 100 lbs is more acurate they are probobly quoting a breed standard for ideal weight. it is however true the bully pits are not fit for performace the way the smaller ones are but their is a movement going on now to change the breeds perception and thats the direction its headed 70lbs. and over is not unusuall for a male thats the way the breed is headed.
