Or brain cancer? I'm asking because I've noticed I get headaches often a little after listening (obviously) to my MP3 player. Although, I know it's not great to do something straight for 5 hours (except sleeping), but I literally have an addiction to music and I'm usually outside, so it's wondrous that it's portable. Now, instead of getting headaches, I'm getting migrains (I know there's a difference), yet I still can't stop listening to music because it literally is my drug and numbs all this stress I'm having (check out my other questions) for a little while. I'm not sure if I have brain cancer or a brain tumor or just plain old headaches/migrains, but being the inaccurately self-diagnosing person I am, I know I COULD be wrong. So someone PLEASE tell me the symtoms of brain cancer/tumors and what I can do and how I can drop my drug. I've tried other hobbies, yet I still absolutely LOVE my MP3 player (show what kind of life I have). I've told my mom about this, but she thinks I lie.

Yes, they are the earbuds.

If you change the volume of the music and change out the earbuds for some headphones, you will solve the headache mystery. Since you are so young, I am betting it is the earbuds. You have some very small, flexible bones in your ear. What you are basically doing is force your ears (bones, accompanying tissues, etc.) to conform to the shape of the earbuds for 5 hours straight. Imagine if you were forced to sit as a rpetzel for 5 hours straight and maybe you might understand why the bones are simply rebelling with inflammation -- they are sore! So take out the earbuds and lower the volume and I guarantee the headaches will dissipate.

You can get a lightweight set at your local radio starore, department store, or Walmart.

Actually, not at all. Music is proven to help. There was a university study a few years ago that showed young children who listened / made music daily had a thicker corpus callosum (the part of the brain through which the loaves communicate) than children that didn't. Furthermore, it's even been found to help memory skills (If you're listening to music with words or a melody, remembering it can increase your ability to remember and memorize data and information.) Some people can find math relations to it, as well. For instance, if I listen to a simple song, I can assign a number, somewhat subconsciously, to each note, and remember it that way. I doubt there's anything actually "bad" about it. Using a bad set of speakers or headphones, or having the volume too high, could hurt your ears -- but if it were a problem, you'd most likely realize that already. I listen to music about 15 hours a day, more on the weekends when I have free time.

I think you will lose your hearing first, before you get a brain tumor. Especially if you have the noise cancelling ear buds that fit inside your ears, very dangerous if the sound is intense and is played for hours at a time.

I never heard of getting a brain tumor from a mp3 player. Anything is possible.

from family experience brain tumor symptoms are similar to a migraine. I don't know how old you are but I would say the chances of having a brain tumor at your age are rare. Go to a dr & get tested if you are really scared

you are probably setting the volume up too loud. you cant contract cancer from earbuds. cellphones are debateable, but you're ok here. if its giving you headaches, try lowering the volume. think about it, the earbud speakers are about 1 1/2 inches from your eardrum. at that proximity, your eardrums take a beating & can sustain damage.

No. It doesn't emit radiation like a cell phone.
Now, if you were listening to MP3's on your cell 5 hrs a day, you're going to need brain surgery....lol.
