I don't believe it is ever too late to learn how to play golf. As far as getting hit in the head, well I have had some close calls and only gotten hit once in the leg when a group of players decided to play into me after letting me play through them...

NEVER too late to learn. I started when I was 32 and three years later I can seriously hold my own even againist the guys. (Of course I do hit off the womens tees but so do they in professional golf with women vs. men. ) Not that I am LPGA Tour material- but you basically play againist yourself not others. You just try to improve all the time. Hopefully you can surround yourself with a group of people who are willing to be patient. Contact your local club pro and get a lesson in the game and in etiquette. Then start buying all those cute little outfits! I was on furlough for three years from my job so I decided to go work at a golf club just for free lessons. I am so hooked - and yes I have been hit several times- but I worked on the beverage cart for three years and since the golfers are hitting towards you-the odds are going to get hit- but hopefully not your person- just the cart but you are protected. I've never been hit while playing!
Do it and start trying to watch golf on TV- esp the LPGA. They have the best swing to learn. Good luck and enjoy!!!!

Never too late to learn. However, you should take lessons from a qualified instructor.
As to the likelihood of getting hit in the head. Don't go out on the course until your instructor feels you are ready for it. Take precautions and follow safety guidlines, keep clear of the driving range and don't venture off of your hole. I've been playing for over 15 years and have been hit on the elbow once, and had my cart hit several times, NEVER on the head.
People getting struck by balls happens because of other golfers. They are poor players, inconsiderate players, irresponsible players and poorly managed courses that allow these knuckleheads out. Don't worry, you will be fine.
Enjoy the gentleman's game.

No it is never too late to play golf, my grandfather started when he was 52. As for the getting hit thing, my dad has played for 35 years and never been hit.
I have played for 10 years and have only heard of someone getting hit twice. There is a chance but very small.

It is never too late to take up this great game !! Go get a few lessons so you feel somewhat comfortable and have fun !!
As far as getting hit in the head, a good tip is to always make sure other golfers know where you are. If you have to venture out to another fairway to hit your ball, make sure the group on that hole isn't hitting and be sure they can see you when you enter their fairway (always let everyone in their group hit before you enter their fairway). Also make sure the group behind you knows where you are as well.
When you start out, go to some easy courses where other high handicap golfers are....if you start out on a harder course, you will end up thinking about how slow you are playing and you'll end up playing worse.
good luck and enjoy.

Never too late to start. The closest I've ever been to getting hit in the head is when a ball sped past my ear.

no it is not ever late to learn golf.
And getting hit with a golf ball is unlikely as long as long as you stay clear of the target line of the golfer that is swinging.
