Wow---not many people I know are interested in him.

I've been a fan since the Zappa era.

I don't know if he professes any religious affiliation but according to his web site his "creative impulses have been inspired by a deeply-held spiritual commitment to improving the world through his music and actions."

He also mentions ZEN in a passing way.

What a cool guy.

This question comes up often on the Steve Vai message boards and the answer time and time again is that Vai keeps his religious beliefs private. He seems to be quite religious, but as to what religion he belongs, one may never know.

Maybe he's Catholic since he used to play with Frank Zappa and Zappa sang that song Catholic Girls. I checked out his web site http://www.vai.com/home.html but he doesn't talk about anything besides his music as far as I can tell.
