Do you think that we should have linen tableclothes or plastic tableclothes at our wedding? It is going to be a large wedding with 600 people. We are having a hog roast, shreadded beef, corn, mashed potatos, noodles, and rolls. It is not in a fancy hall but in a Knights of Columbus hall in the country.

How about using a paper cover and having markers on the table - you could ask people to write messages to the bride and groom while they are sitting at the table. This would be practical but fun!

Plastic or linen was THE bone of contention for our reception!! The fmil wanted linen, I wanted plastic since ours is going to be a very informal reception, and linen is SO expensive. Eventually, after some minor unpleasantness over the topic, I went on ebay and bought the plastic ones.

It really depends on what you want, but the foods you're serving are definitely plastic tablecloth material if you ask me, but a large wedding with 600 people suggests formality. You know the tablecloths will be stained afterward, so if you go with linen, I would suggest renting.

Congratulations.

I think it depends on how much you want to spend. I am sure that with 600 people you are spending a lot of money. And with that many people the cost of the tablecloths will vary tremendously just because you will have to have so many. If everything else is going to be somewhat fancy then you need linen tablecloths. If not go with the plastic.

Well, even though the food will be of a hearty variety, that doesn't mean you can't eat it in style. Go with a linen cloth from a rental company. Think of it like this, when you have a romantic picnic, you drink champagne out of real glasses, and eat your food with actual forks and plates. This is a special occasion, go for the linen. Most rental supply companies account for food stains and such in their rental fee, so don't worry if they get covered with BBQ sauce!

If you rent the linens, most places clean them themselves so if they get a bit messy, then it is fine. I personally would go with a linen table clothe covered with a thin plastic clear cover if you worried about the mess. You mentioned nothing about BBQ sauce, so i think the linens will be fine with the exception of the occasional butter splatter.

I would consider linen if you can find a good price on rental its not like you have to wash it and it absorbs spills where plastic pools and could end up messier. If you can't find a good deal with a vendor you want to work with get the plastic.

Use plastic!!!! Its cheaper and easier clean-up. A hog roast is casual enough to use plastic tablecloths!

Congratulations and best wishes!

It depends on the atmosphere that you want to create. Personally, based on what you have said I would go for a plaid linen in your wedding colors. Remember, this is your wedding, and even though it sounds like you are keeping it simple I would go for simple elegance.

plastic can be purchased in rolls at party suppliers, some suppliers have different quality plastics some with a fabric like appearance, Plastics also come in a multitude of colors to match w/wedding colors. . . I would go with plastic my self . . especially if your having to do clean up the plastic can be waded with all the stuff in/on it and thrown away

congrats !!!

Plastic is cheaper but linen looks much more classy. Check out rental places that deliver & pick up.
