There is one common indicator, reticular hemorrhage.

The blood vessels on the white part of the eye rupture.

I think it's difficult, if not impossible, for most people to accept that there can be any existence after the body dies unless they've had personal contact with someone on the other side. And even those that can may struggle to accept it Most people will only believe what their physical senses are telling them, unless that is they're willing to accept someone else's opinion at face value which is the case for most scientific theories actually as they're too complicated for Joe Public to truly understand and some are only understood by a handful of people yet accepted as scientific fact And so without physical proof to go by all you have is personal experience to accept something like this The question then is what would it take to convince you that there is a life beyond this one? To be honest some things are better left unknown. We wouldn't be here just to wonder what's going to happen when life ends so we should be focusing on what to do in the time we have here

if somebody has been smothered their DNA is probably on the object they were smothered by.
in manual strangulation there will be petichial hemorrages in the eyes
ligature strangulation will also cause petichial hemorrage but will also show a pattern of the object used to strangle
autoerotic death - isnt that when people like to be suffocated during sex?
