I was invited to attend a co workers birthday party. The party was set to begin at 2pm at a friends house. I thought it was for later on in the evening at 6pm. I was ready at 5:40pm and I looked at the directions which was handwritten by the party girl with 2pm written on it as well. She didnt give me her phone number so I had no way of calling her. I feel stupid and bad.

Say, "I'm awfully sorry that I mixed up the time. I'm so silly. I hope the party was great! Here's what I planned to bring you," and give her at least a little something.

If you were not planning on giving her a gift, leave off the last part.

Don't worry about it, everyone makes mistakes.

Tell her that with the handwritten invitation that you thought it said 6pm instead of 2pm. A lot of people have really bad handwriting these days. Tell her you are sorry to have missed the party and get her a nice little plant for her desk.

Why do you feel stupid and bad? I'm sure the party was still in full swing. You must be shy or either you could not understand the directions. Just tell her that something came up and you could not make it. Buy your co-worker a gift!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just tell her the truth and then say how upset you were at missing the party. Then mention that there wasn't a phone number to call. She will understand, and by all means give her the gift. After all it wasn't her fault for any mistakes...hope this helps.

Tell her the truth. Tell her you're very sorry you missed it, but you mis-read the invitation. Gift her a present anyway, and offer to take her out to lunch to make up for it.

Was this co-worker throwing the party for herself? Tacky. If so, just tell her - sorry - misread the invitation.
If it was for someone else - tell HER sorry, explain and give her a token gift.
