i would take it for the house, but it all depends on the wedding couple. If you are going to have a big wedding no matter what than its best to pay that off first because most of than will have to be paid right up front, and the house doesnt have to be. But if your not going to have a big wedding and yous both agree to do something really small than just pay for the wedding with your own money and get the 10,000 for the house.

Well, there are times when I wish I had 10,000 for a house. However, my wedding was the BEST day of my life. We had an average sized wedding with everything, and my husband and I had a great time! It was like no other time in my life, and I wouldn't give it up for anything! With that said having a wedding is a personal decision that only you can make... Also, keep in mind that most people give money for a gift and you might get quite a bit that you could save (we got around 7,000).

wedding for sure. that way all you have to worry about is the house. if they give you the money for the house then you still have to pay for the wedding and then make your payments on the house. its much easier to have to pay money toward one thing rather then 2 different things. not to mention so many people make a big deal out of owning a house. my husband and I have been happily married for 2 years now living in an apartment with no desire to buy a house anytime in the near future. you can still lead a happy marriage without a house. you cant live a happy marriage without a marriage. go for the wedding.

My parents told me what they had budgeted for my wedding, and told me I could do whatever I wanted with the money (it was a little over $10,000). Since I knew there was no way possible to have a small, intimate wedding (which I didn't really want anyway) and I had some money of my own saved up, I am taking their money to pay for the wedding and using my own (about $11,000) to put a down payment on a house.

My fiance and I are very happy with our decision. We bought a small house that has been completely redone AND we get to have a big wedding. Also, you can finance 100% of a house (sometimes it works out better...no PMI) and that debt is seen as a safe debt and good investment, whereas if you take out a loan for a wedding you have a huge debt for one day of fun.

I would probably take the money as a new house for my fiance and I would last forever and be a special beginning for our marriage. You could see if you can take the 10,000 and spend some of it on the wedding and some on a house. You can arrange BEAUTIFUL weddings on a budget if you are creative. Lovely garden weddings with a reception afterwards at a restaurant where you request your friends pay for their meal in lieu of bringing a gift is one idea.

Good Luck!

Take the 10 grand for the house. A wedding lasts one day, a house lasts a lifetime!

Take the money for the house. You can still have a nice wedding on a budget. You'd never regret the choice-there are so many benefits to owning a house now and later on!

Congratulations.

Depends on the financial situation....If it were me, i'd take the wedding...BUT I just got married 5 months ago and would not trade that day for anything... but if I had not yet been married...I prolly would have taken the $$ for a house. If we could afford the mortgage payments... =0) We bought a house before we were even engaged, so my dad paid for a huge wedding for us.

I would throw a smaller wedding and pay for it myself that way I have final say my money my day thats how we did it. We used all money we were given for our house. Just don't put the whole 10000 down there are a lot of hidden fees in buying a house.

I think it depends on whether you and your fiance want to purchase a home. If you do, then I would probably use the money towards a down payment on a home. If you aren't interested in purchasing a home now, you could always put the money in an interest bearing savings account for when you do decide to purchase your home. If you are interested in purchasing a home then I'd go for the wedding.
